Leslie Hope, John Hurt, and Sean Astin are the latest cast additions for The Strain TV series, based on the novel co-written by Guillermo del Toro. Leslie Hope, formerly Jack Bauer's wife on 24 and recent guest star on NBC's Revolution, joins the cast of the new TV series based on the novel of the same title penned by del Toro and Chuck Hogan. The premise as follows is provided by TVLine:

"From Carlton Cuse (Lost, Bates Motel) and Del Toro (the Hellboy films, Pan’s Labyrinth), the high-concept thriller stars Corey Stoll (House of Cards) as Dr. Ephraim Goodweather, the head of a Center for Disease Control team in New York City. Unexpectedly, the group is tasked with investigating a mysterious viral outbreak with the hallmarks of an ancient, evil strain of vampirism."

Hope's character is Joan Luss, one of the survivors of the outbreak and will star alongside other new cast members Sean Astin (Lord of the Rings) and John Hurt, who has worked with Del Toro before on Hellboy. Astin's character has not been revealed as of yet, whereas "Hurt will play Professor Abraham Setrakian, a Holocaust survivor who emigrated to America after World War II. His character runs a pawn shop in Spanish Harlem and may be the only one with answers once the bloodsucking virus breaks out."

The rest of the cast features Mia Maestro (Alias), Jonathan Hyde (The Mummy), Kevin Durand (Resident Evil: Retribution) and Richard Sammel (Inglourious Basterds). For more on their characters, you can find bios on this previous Daily Dead report:
