Back in May of 2011, TikGames officially announced that they were working on a Child's Play video game. Titled Chucky, the game was described as a “stealth-action romp” in which players will use “stealth and guile to dispatch victims in a multitude of distinctive methods”. We haven't heard anything from the developers this year and it now appears that the project has been canceled.
BD pointed out a Kickstarter campaign that TikGames launched, looking for close to $1 million to develop the game. The campaign ended last month and only $585 was pledged:
“It is with great sadness that we announce the cancellation of this Kickstarter Campaign. For those who have followed Chucky this last week, you know that pledges have been very slow. We built a fun campaign with lots of great goodies, got the word out to as many people as we could, but sadly not enough people loved the concept of a Chucky video game as much as we did.
While some campaigns go viral and require very little promotion from company behind the project, that isn't usually the case. We've seen dozens of horror-related crowd funding campaigns fail because they didn't get the word out and that is part of the problem here. Hardly anyone covered it, because it wasn't made known to enough people that the campaign existed. Aside from that, fans were already a bit skeptical about the game when they learned that Brad Dourif would not be lending his voice for Chucky.
With the failure of the Kickstarter campaign, it's very likely that the game has been canceled. This could change if TikGames is able to secure funding by other means and/or if they launch another crowd funding campaign with different service and are successfully funded. We'll be sure to update players if we hear anything else about this project.
