*Updated with new panel time and additional guest.* Comic-Con attendees who saw The Final Girls last fall or still have it at the top of their to-do lists are in for a treat, as the film's self-aware humor and horror will set up camp in San Diego at a cast and crew panel, a midnight screening, and a special "I Scream Truck" packed with goodies.
On Saturday, July 23rd from 5:30pm–6:30pm in The Grand Horton, director Todd Strauss-Schulson, writers Joshua John Miller and M.A. Fortin, director of photography Elie Smolkin, and cast members Thomas Middleditch and Angela Trimbur will take part in a panel to discuss the making of The Final Girls and the future of the midnight movie. Actresses who have played popular final girls throughout horror movie history will also pop up as surprise guests, and attendees of the panel will have the chance to take home some sweet giveaways from the movie.
That night, the world of Camp Bloodbath will come alive in a special midnight screening of The Final Girls at San Diego's Landmark Ken Theatre. To reserve tickets, visit:
The film's "I Scream Truck" (see below) will also be on hand during Comic-Con, with special guests giving out autographed posters and The Final Swirls ice cream treats to those who post #finalgirls photos on social media. To discover where The Final Swirls truck will be located, follow @straussschulson on Twitter, Instagram, and Snapchat.
The Final Girls is gradually being recognized as a cult film worth celebrating across the country, including New York City and San Francisco, with the latter hosting a Rocky Horror Picture Show-type event put on by Peaches Christ for Strauss-Schulson's film.
If you missed out on seeing The Final Girls on the big screen and you're San Diego-bound this July, then this is your chance to see the movie as it should be experienced: late at night, surrounded by horror fans, and in a movie theater. For those unfamiliar with The Final Girls, we have its official synopsis and trailer, as well as a look at the "I Scream Truck" that you'll hopefully have a chance to visit in a few weeks.
Synopsis: "When Max (Taissa Farmiga) and her friends reluctantly attend a anniversary screening of “Camp Bloodbath," the infamous ‘80s horror film that starred Max’s late mother (Malin Akerman), they are mysteriously sucked into the silver screen. They soon realize they are trapped inside the cult classic movie and must team up with the fictional and ill-fated camp counselors, including Max’s mom as the scream queen, to battle the film’s machete-wielding killer. With the body count rising in scene after iconic scene, who will be the final girls left standing and live to escape this film? THE FINAL GIRLS is a genre-blending horror comedy also starring Adam DeVine, Thomas Middleditch, Alia Shawkat with Alexander Ludwig and Nina Dobrev."
