Tim Burton's version of Dark Shadows has officially been set for release on May 11th, 2012. The main cast list currently includes Johnny Depp, Helena Bonham Carter, Chloe Moretz, Eva Green, and Jackie Earle Haley. Michael Sheen was previously reported to be in talks for a role, but that has been confirmed to no longer be the case. Michelle Pfeiffer has also been named as a potential addition to the cast, but this is not yet verified as a done deal.

Johnny Depp will be playing Barnabas in the adaptation of the 60's soap that produced over 1,200 episodes. It has also been confirmed that at least part of this movie will take place during the 60's/70's era, sticking to the original timeline of the show.

Dark Shadows will be facing some heavy competition next year by being positioned as a big summer release, so Warner Bros. must have faith in the material and its ability to reach a wide audience. Next summer will be filled with interesting summer genre releases including The Avengers, Battleship, Men in Black III, Prometheus, Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter, and possibly Star Trek 2. It will be interesting to see how some of these films will perform as big summer releases.
