A remake of Poltergeist has been in development for a while at MGM, but it looks like the project is finally moving forward with the news that a director has been chosen. According to DeadlineMonster House's Gil Kenan has been hired to direct the movie, with Sam Raimi still involved with the project in a producing capacity.

There are no new story details or casting news at this time, but here is what screenwriter David Lindsay-Abaire (Rise of the Guardians, Oz: The Great and Powerful) previously said about his take on the material:

Via Collider-"My version is not a gory, horrible…it’s tonally similar to the first movie, and that’s sort of family-friendly-esque with some real, genuine scares in it. It’s not Saw if that’s what you’re asking. I’m not trying to turn it into something else."

It has also been confirmed that Nathan Kahane and Roy Lee will be producing the project with Sam Raimi. With a director now on-board, this project should have start to have some serious momentum. We'll report back as soon as new story details and casting information is released.
