When you think of the biggest modern-day sci-fi writers/directors, Neill Blomkamp most likely makes your shortlist. His two features to date—2009's District 9 and 2013's Elysium—presented futuristic settings with spaceship spectacles, social commentary, and plenty of action. Yesterday, Blomkamp posted images of concept art online from a project he's been playing around with... but it's not for his upcoming Chappie. Instead, the artwork depicts scenarios from an unmade, unofficial Alien project.

Neill Blomkamp posted the Alien images to Instagram yesterday, giving fans a look at what his vision for a new Alien film or video game would be, including depictions of a Xenomorph, Ellen Ripley, Corporal Hicks, and more.

Underneath the Xenomorph image, Blomkamp wrote, "Was working on this. Don't think I am anymore. Love it though. #alien #xenomorph". The director also tweeted, "Ps this has nothing to do with the studio. I just feel like I might do something else instead. In which case why not show some work-", as well as, "They didn't really even know I was working on it ha".

Blomkamp's statements make it seem as if the concept art is just the result of a creative mind having some fun tinkering with a beloved franchise, but there's always the possibility that this collection could be used for a film or video game pitch one day.
