Fangoria continues to expand its entertainment productions with the announcement that they'll be financing the pilot episode for Ghoul Gang Slumber Party, a "feminist ghost-hunting comedy" featuring April Wolfe, Dani Fernandez, Barbara Crampton, and more:
From the Press Release: The iconic horror entertainment company FANGORIA is getting into the television business by financing the pilot for GHOUL GANG SLUMBER PARTY, a feminist ghost-hunting comedy from creators Suki-Rose Simakis & April Wolfe. Production is set to begin in September in Los Angeles.
The concept involves four women brave enough to spend the night in a famous haunted house while getting tipsy on wine, communing with the spirits, and learning about witchy traditions. Light and fun with a dash of double, double toil and trouble, GHOUL GANG SLUMBER PARTY channels all the hilarity of childhood sleepovers mixed with the likes Queer Eye and Drunk History, with ghosts!
Wolfe will co-host with popular personality Dani Fernandez and legendary actress Barbara Crampton. Joining the trio as their first guest is comedian Jamie Loftus.
Simakas & Wolfe serve as Executive Producers, alongside Dallas Sonnier, Amanda Presmyk & Phil Nobile Jr for FANGORIA.
“The fundamental cores of both feminism and witchcraft are sisterhood and female empowerment,” say Simakis & Wolfe. “It feels very of the moment to weave together witches and gender parity.”
Sonnier added: “Well, actually……just kidding. This project rules. No fragile male egos were harmed in the making of this pilot.”
Simakis produced a pilot this summer with animator KyttenJanae and is currently developing a feature and scripted TV series with April Wolfe as well as an experimental feature with video collective Everything is Terrible!. She co-created the hit mobile game JoinDispatch (a featured app store game of the day) which was released earlier this year by SpectreVision Games with a sequel forthcoming. She has presented programs with the UCLA film and television archive and currently sits on the advisory board for Fantastic Fest in Austin, TX.
Wolfe is best known as the former lead film critic at LA Weekly and as creator and host of the genre-film podcast Switchblade Sisters. She is developing two horror feature films, BLACK HARVEST for director Weston Currie and HEAVEN FOR REAL with Simakis, along with a coming-of-age television series about early-2000s punks working in fast food, entitled Third Shift.
Fernandez is a writer, actress, and comedian who has written for shows on New Form, Fullscreen, Nerdist, Legendary, Epic Meal Time, as well as numerous humor sites. She has a popular podcast "Nerdificent" on the How Stuff Works Network, and is currently a host at Nerdist, Funimation, and Mental Floss. Fernandez has written and performed at The Comedy Store’s Roast Battle, The Historical and Fictional Roasts at Meltdown, Tournament of Nerds at the Upright Citizens Brigade and Cracked.com LIVE.
Crampton has been working in the horror industry for three decades, with memorable, career-making turns in genre classics like RE-ANIMATOR, CHOPPING MALL, and FROM BEYOND. She went on to star in the long-running soap operas The Young and the Restless and The Bold and the Beautiful before becoming reinvested in the genre with 2011’s celebrated home invasion horror YOU’RE NEXT. Crampton has since gone on to perform steadily in original and thought-provoking movies like PUPPET MASTER: THE LITTLEST REICH, WE ARE STILL HERE, and SUN CHOKE. Today, Crampton is a powerhouse personality in the horror scene. Since 2015, the actress has moved into producing with BEYOND THE GATES, and she received lifetime achievement awards from Sitges, Morbido and Fant Bilbao film festivals.
FANGORIA was recently acquired by the Texas-based production company CINESTATE, who are resurrecting the magazine as a print publication this fall. FANGORIA’s first feature PUPPET MASTER: THE LITTLEST REICH premiered at the Overlook Film Festival and was released by RLJE Films earlier this month. It received rave reviews from Newsweek, the LA Times, the NY Times, Bloody-Disgusting, Daily Beast, Time Out NY, and many others. FANGORIA is in prep on its second feature SATANIC PANIC written by Grady Hendrix (co-story by Ted Geoghegan) and to be directed by Chelsea Stardust.
