The future is a gorgeous yet seemingly dangerous place in the world of Blade Runner 2049, as evidenced by new photos from the upcoming sequel.

Unveiled by EW, the new photos offer a deeper look into Blade Runner 2049, and director Denis Villeneuve shared some insights into the societal—and environmental—unrest of the film's setting:

“The climate has gone berserk and the ecosystem has collapsed and the ocean has risen. There are a lot of refugees trying to survive on the West Coast.”

Check out the new photos below, and keep an eye on Daily Dead for more updates on Blade Runner 2049.

Synopsis: "Thirty years after the events of the first film, a new blade runner, LAPD Officer K (Ryan Gosling), unearths a long-buried secret that has the potential to plunge what’s left of society into chaos. From executive producer Ridley Scott and director Denis Villeneuve, #BladeRunner2049 stars Ryan Gosling, Harrison Ford, Ana De Armas, MacKenzie Davis, Sylvia Hoeks, Lennie James, Carla Juri, Robin Wright, Dave Bautista and Jared Leto."
