Hot on the heels of unveiling the core cast of his Ghostbusters reboot, director/co-writer Paul Feig has now announced the movie's official release date, setting up some potential supernatural scares and laughs for the summer of 2016.

Paul Feig announced on Twitter that the Ghostbusters reboot will hit theaters on July 22nd, 2016. Earlier today, Feig revealed via a Twitter image that the new Ghostbusters movie will star Melissa McCarthy, Kristen Wiig, Kate McKinnon and Leslie Jones. Here's the latest tweet from Feig:

"In other news, #Ghostbusters will be hitting theaters July 22, 2016. Save the date!"

Kristen Wiig, Kate McKinnon and Leslie Jones all have SNL ties and are funny on their feet. Wiig starred on the show from 2005 – 2012, while McKinnon continues to impress on the live series since her 2012 debut. This season of SNL saw Leslie Jones get promoted from writer to cast member, with her strongly opinionated characters quickly becoming one of the series’ highlights.

The in-demand McCarthy, meanwhile, will reunite with Bridesmaids co-star Wiig, as well as The Heat director Feig and co-writer Katie Dippold, on the Ghostbusters reboot, which could start production this year. Ivan Reitman, director of 1984’s Ghostbusters and 1989’s Ghostbusters II, is producing the new installment. There's speculation that actors from the original films, with Bill Murray mentioned in particular, could make an appearance in the reboot. Stay tuned to Daily Dead for more updates.
