Although he will not be reprising his role as Leatherface in the film, it was recently revealed that Gunnar Hansen will have a cameo role in The Texas Chainsaw Massacre 3D. During an appearance at a screening of The Texas Chain Saw Massacre in Nova Scotia, Gunnar Hansen talked about The Texas Chainsaw Massacre 3D and how it will tie into the original film.

[Spoiler Warning]"Yes, I'm going to be in the movie... It's a true sequel to the original "Chainsaw". The opening of the movie is the last scene of the original movie and so it starts right at the beginning. In fact, they're using some of the footage of Leatherface, of me, dancing, at the beginning. They're using that footage as the opening shot... I read the script... it looks pretty good and I can say that because I've been extremely critical of the sequels and remakes. This one, you know, is not what I would have written, but I didn't write it.... it's got some neat stuff in it. I think it has some real promise to be a decent movie."[End Spoilers]

The Texas Chainsaw Massacre 3D is currently filming and is directed by John Luessenhop. The cast includes Gunnar Hansen, Marilyn Burns, John Dugan, Bill Moseley, Dan Yeager, Alexandra Daddario, Tania Raymonde, Keram Malicki-Sanchez, Shaun Sipos, Thom Barry, Paul Rae, Scott Eastwood, Trey Songz, and Richard Riehle.
