Popcorn Frights Film Festival Audience Award Winners: Press Release: "MIAMI, FL – Popcorn Frights Film Festival, Florida’s largest genre film event, has announced the 2017 Audience Award winners. The 2017 seven night event featured over 40 North American, US, and Florida premieres, numerous special guests, and record attendance.

Mayhem, directed by Joe Lynch, won the Audience Award for Feature Film. Starring a hammer-wielding Steven Yeun (The Walking Dead), Mayhem is a pedal to the metal savage genre-bender that presents a wonderfully violent middle finger to corporate culture.

“I am beyond words hearing the news about Mayhem winning the Audience Award! Popcorn Frights is one of the most exciting new festivals emerging in the US, bringing a great & diverse selection of genre films to a rabid audience, so it was already an honor to bring some Mayhem to Miami but this is, for lack of a better term, “F’n AWESOME! Thank you all and Mayhem reigns!” said director Joe Lynch.

Winning the Audience Award for Short Film was Buzzcut. Written and directed by Jon Rhoads and Mike Marrero, two South Florida filmmakers who presented the film as part of Popcorn Frights inaugural Homegrown: 100% Pure Fresh Squeezed Florida Horror program.

“It's an honor just to screen alongside these great shorts, we were blown away by the ones we saw. So we are thrilled about the award,” said Jon Rhoads and Mike Marrero.

“Popcorn Frights Film Festival’s third edition was even more successful than we could have ever dreamed. The Festival brought the best of international genre cinema to Miami, inspiring not only South Florida audiences but our growing community of filmmakers who are helping tell Miami stories. On behalf of the Popcorn Frights team, we congratulate Mayhem and Buzzcut as the 2017 Audience Award winners, and hope film lovers worldwide get to experience these brilliantly bold films,” said Igor Shteyrenberg & Marc Ferman, Co-Founders & Co-Directors of the Popcorn Frights Film Festival.

Runners-up for the Audience Awards include Still/Born, directed by Brandon Christensen, for Feature Film and Great Choice, directed by Robin Comisar, for Short Film.

46 films were presented at the third annual edition of Popcorn Frights Film Festival, including the North American Premieres of Jackals, The Hatred, and The Bride, and the Florida Premieres of Mayhem, Super Dark Times, The Endless, and Tragedy Girls. Numerous guests attended the Festival as well, such as Joe Lynch, Graham Skipper, Zach Kahn, Jeremy Gardner, and Brandon Christenson, amongst others.

Check Out Four Behind-the-Scenes Videos for Mountain Fever: Press Release: "London, UK – DATE 01/08/2017 – FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

The independent survivalist-thriller Mountain Fever will receive its world premiere at Horror Channel’s Frightfest film festival in London, UK on Saturday, 26th August. In anticipation of the premiere screening, a new teaser and poster have been released.

Mountain Fever is an ice-cold thriller about a hapless Englishman who, hostage in his own home, is forced to team up with his captor to fight off the survivors of a fatal pandemic.

Set during an unforgiving Alpine winter, featuring a sledgehammer-wielding villain and an ass-kicking female lead, Mountain Fever promises genre fans bone-shattering new chills.

Read the official synopsis below:

A fatal flu pandemic has plunged Europe into chaos. City boy Jack takes refuge in the Alps but he’s ill-equipped to survive the harsh winter. Things only get worse when renegade Kara breaks into his house and commandeers his dwindling food supplies.

His inept plan to get rid of her disintegrates when outsiders invade, turning the hostile Kara into his only ally.

Little does he know that Kara is the source of all the trouble and that the weather-hardened locals will do anything to get to her. Stuck in the middle of a bitter siege, Jack must choose a side if he hopes to survive.

The film is the feature debut of director Hendrik Faller, an independent filmmaker working in London looking to bring this unique British-led alpine thriller to international audiences.

“I wanted to explore human nature in extreme circumstances. What are we capable of when life becomes a pure act of survival?” Hendrik Faller says is the question driving his movie. “Mountain Fever is a nail-biting survivalist thriller that pits its characters against each other as their situation devolves into maximum desperation. I think genre fans are going to love the cat and mouse game that ensues.” There’s also literally a cat, Hendrik Faller points out. “We have a one-eyed kazak cat who plays a fantastic little role, we even have a horse... But the most surprising character is Kara. She’s this mysterious, gas mask wearing stranger who pistol-whips her way through the men in our film. She’s a real dark horse, twisting our snow-heaped tale in ways the audience just cannot predict. It’s a really wild journey and I believe our viewers are going to be on the edge of their seats from start to finish!”

For tickets to the world premiere on Saturday, 26th August visit the Frightfest website. To learn more about Mountain Fever visit, www.mountainfevermovie.com or follow the film on Twitter or Facebook."
