Excerpt:

The Red-Eye to Boston

By John M. Floyd

“Whoa,” the old man said.

He eased himself into his seat as if sitting on eggs. His face was drawn and sweaty in the dim lights of the passenger cabin, his eyes staring blankly at the back of the seat in front of him. “Whoa,” he said again, under his breath.

Three feet to his left, in the window seat, a young man with a blond crew-cut looked up from his paperback. He regarded the older man for several seconds. “You talking to me?”

The old-timer turned, blinking. He looked past the younger man for a moment, at the black circle of the window and the night sky beyond, then seemed to force his gaze back to his immediate surroundings. Perspiration glistened on his wrinkled cheeks and forehead.

“This is not my seat,” he murmured as if speaking to himself. “I’m sorry, I must go find my seat.”

The blond man watched him curiously but casually, the way a cruel child might watch a dog lying injured in the street. “What’s your problem, old man?”

For an instant, the tired, frightened eyes seemed to clear, and the two passengers stared at each other across the empty seat that separated them.

The old man leaned closer.

“There is something in the bathroom,” he whispered.

“What?”

“In the bathroom. The one on the right, at the back of the plane. Something is in there.” He swallowed again. “It almost got me.” The dazed look returned, and the old man’s gaze drifted again to the window.

The young man studied him. “What do you mean, almost got you?”

The old-timer blinked, focused. His face turned deadly serious. “I need your help.”

After a pause, the young man snorted and reopened his book. “I think you need more help than I could give you.”

“I can make it worth your while.”

The young man looked up again. “What’d you say?”

The Dead Next Door Blu-ray Release Details: Press Release: Press Release: "May 15, 2017 – Akron, Ohio: Tempe Entertainment today announced the launch of its Blu-ray label Tempe Digital with the September 26 release of the 1990 landmark independent shocker “The Dead Next Door.” Priced at $29.95 SRP, this 2-Disc Collector’s Edition includes the same Blu-ray from the company’s limited (and now out of print) 3-Disc Ultimate Edition, along with an all-new DVD featuring a collectible slipcover and three new bonus features.

Two and a half decades before “The Walking Dead” made zombies mainstream on cable television, 19-year-old writer/director J.R. Bookwalter (“Ozone,” “Witchouse 2: Blood Coven”) embarked on “The Dead Next Door,” an ambitious horror feature pitting an elite team of Zombie Squad soldiers against hoards of the undead and the secretive religious cult hell-bent on protecting them. The film would ultimately take four years to complete with the help of a now-famous Hollywood director and more than 1,500 Northeast Ohio residents, who portrayed the multitudes of bloodthirsty ghouls.

For this 2-Disc Collector’s Edition release, brand-new 4:3 and 16:9 1080p HD masters have been painstakingly created from a 2K restoration using the original Super-8mm film elements. Also included is a 5.1 surround mix which restores the voices of the original cast members for the first time ever, vintage and newly-prepared bonus materials, and much more. The DVD includes a 4:3 standard-definition presentation of the restored feature plus a candid audio commentary by the director recorded in 2001, which was previously only available on long out-of-print international releases.

The second disc also features an all-new 2017 interview with actor Scott Spiegel (director of cult favorites “Intruder” and “From Dusk Till Dawn 2: Texas Blood Money”), as well as a 1999 tour of several locations where the film was shot. Rounding out the Collector’s Edition is a beautiful slipcover featuring newly-commissioned artwork, which will only be available with the first pressing of 1,000 units.

“The Dead Next Door” 2-Disc Collector’s Edition Blu-ray + DVD will be available everywhere on September 26, 2017 at $29.95 SRP, with retail distribution from our partners at MVD.

Release Details for Ty Arthur's Light Dawning: Press Release: "Following his debut sci-fi novella “Empty” from 2016, Ty Arthur returns with new full-length horror novel “Light Dawning.” Pivoting away from the emptiness of space, the book dives headlong into the waters of fantasy, but with a seriously grimdark twist. This next foray into the bleaker corners of human existence is officially slated for release on Friday, May 26th, 2017.

Kindle pre-orders are now online at https://www.amazon.com/Light-Dawning-Ty-Arthur-ebook/dp/B0722FJ3ZB/ref=asap_bc?ie=UTF8

Once known as the City on the Hill and revered far and wide for its independence and boundless opportunity, Cestia has become home only to the damned. Surviving under the brutal occupation of a southern empire for three long years, the oppressed populace has lost hope of liberation, turning instead towards an increasingly desperate rebellion willing to commit any atrocity for a chance at freedom.

As total war approaches, four lost souls trapped behind Cestia's walls are on a collision course with fate, destined to either save the city or see it utterly destroyed while calling on forces beyond mankind's comprehension. For good or ill, the light of a new day is about to dawn.

“As with all my work, this story is inspired by a real life experience translated into a fictional setting, and completing this book took a lot out of me,” Arthur said of the upcoming release. “Its set in an unquestionably fantasy universe, but you won't find any elves or farm boy chosen ones saving the world. My take on the genre draws more from cosmic dread and the horror of war than anything with unlikely heroes or lovable rogues. Don't expect any happy endings.”

Like its predecessor, the creation of “Light Dawning” was driven forward by the power of music. To get an advance preview of the themes and tone of the novel, a music playlist matching several scenes can be heard via Spotify at http://goo.gl/dYxaVq

AUTHOR BIO:
Ty Arthur gets to meld his passions with his work while freelancing for the likes of Metalunderground.com and GameSkinny. His debut sci-fi / horror novella “Empty” was released in early 2016, with many more dark tales still to come. Arthur writes to exorcise his demons and lives in the cold, dark north with his amazing wife Megan and infant son Gannicus Picard."

About the Author - Tamika Jones

Tamika hails from North Beach, Maryland, a tiny town inches from the Chesapeake Bay.She knew she wanted to be an actor after reciting a soliloquy by Sojourner Truth in front of her entire fifth grade class. Since then, she's appeared in over 20 film and television projects. In addition to acting, Tamika is the Indie Spotlight manager for Daily Dead, where she brings readers news on independent horror projects every weekend.

The first horror film Tamika watched was Child's Play. Being eight years old at the time, she remembers being so scared when Chucky came to life that she projectile vomited. It's tough for her to choose only one movie as her favorite horror film, so she picked two: Nosferatu and The Stepford Wives (1975).
