Chromatic Black and The Luminal Theater Present Horror for the Holidays: "Chromatic Black and The Luminal Theater present Horror for the Holidays - a five-night virtual screening from December 16-21 featuring short horror films produced and created by five Black independent filmmakers.
The aim of Horror for the Holidays is to highlight Black filmmakers who bring their vision of horror from their unique cultural and individual perspectives and use the genre as a mechanism to explore race. The short films include:
Peel (2017): Have you ever listened to the sound a tangerine makes when you peel it? Originally from Yonkers, New York, Zena S. Dixon is the founder of Real Queen Of Horror, her brand where she writes as a horror film commentator, reviewer, graphic designer, vlogger, and podcaster. Her dedication to the genre has led to work with iHorror, Florida Geek Scene, Wicked Horror, Black Girl Nerds, Bloody-Disgusting, and most recently, Dread Central. Peel has caused a buzz on the film festival circuit and Night of the Witch is available for Amazon Prime members to watch now.
The Black Banshee (2020): Convinced by her friends and boyfriend to enjoy a night out after losing her job, Yvie begins to question her own mind when she realizes the visions she's been having include dangerous consequences. Directed by Kyla Sylvers, the film has screened at the San Diego Black Film Festival, San Francisco Black Film Festival, New Faces, New Voices Film Festival, 1261 Festival, and many more. It was an Audience Choice Award winner and recently received distribution as part of the Emerging Black Filmmakers Collection with Full Spectrum Features, The Luminal Theatre, The NW Film Forum, and Collective Circle.
The Company You Keep (2019): A painfully shy woman is pushed to the brink of insanity by a friendship she should have ended long ago. Producer Laura Fielder is a writer, director and producer with over ten years of experience in independent filmmaking. She serves as a board member of The Black TV & Film Collective, a non-profit organization whose purpose is to create equity and inclusion in the film and television industry.
The Dark Strums (2020): A musician is rumored to have sold their soul to learn how to play the guitar. Director, Editor and Producer Steve Alexander Russell is known for his work Tastes Like Medicine (2016) and The Voodoo (2014).
The Reading (2019): After an unexpected visit to a psychic, a Christian woman's faith is put to the test as she embarks on a dark path to find a cure for her son's unknown illness. As lines get crossed, the answer she finds will leave her questioning all that she once knew. Director Garrick Wade and Screenwriter Justin Jenkins are the co-founders of Cre8tiveTribe Media.

With a plot as dark as HELP’s, you might not expect to see former boyband member Duncan James' cameo, but the unlikely pairing came about organically. “I met Louis whilst filming in Liverpool, a mutual friend introduced us, and we immediately struck up a friendship”, explains James. “His passion was palpable and there was a lot of mutual respect. I watched his performance in a few of Ridder’s short films, such as ‘The English Teacher’ and ‘A Simple Robbery’ and thought he was great, so I wanted to support him and be involved in his next project”."
