THE BEAST OF BLOOD IS BACK FROM THE DEAD AND HUNTING FOR HEADS! - RE-ANIMATOR’S BRIAN YUZNA RESURRECTS THE GREEN-BLOODED ZOMBIE WITH NEW ISSUES OF TALES OF BLOOD ISLAND TIKI HORROR COMICS: "Before the undying horror legends of Halloween’s Michael Myers, Friday the 13th’s Jason Voorhees, and Nightmare on Elm Street’s Freddy Krueger, there was Blood Island’s axe-wielding, flesh-eater, the Beast of Blood. Body horror director and producer of the “Re-Animator” zombie film franchise, Brian Yuzna, and Dave Sehring of Drive-In-Sanity Films have teamed up for another TALES OF BLOOD ISLAND KICKSTARTER campaign to resurrect the mutant zombie, the Beast of Blood (aka The Chlorophyll Man), with more jungle horror comics to get fans excited about the planned re-boot of the Blood Island film series that is currently in pre-production.
Based on a film script written by Sehring and Mark Cerulli, the comics are illustrated by Stephen Sistilli with color and lettering by Dexter Weeks. Sistilli and Weeks previously worked on the comic, KONI WAVES from Arcana Studios.
The original BLOOD ISLAND films were shot in the Philippines by Eddie Romero and Gerardo de Leon for the U.S. drive-in market in the 1960s and 1970s. The movie reboot plans to mash and mix up “tiki jungle horrors” with the series famous exploitation formula of “BLOOD, BREASTS and BEASTS.”
The story for the six-issue run of TALES OF BLOOD ISLAND comics is set during the Vietnam War, somewhere in the South Seas, as an American soldier-of-fortune and an ex-war buddy travel to the mysterious Blood Island, a primitive world where prehistoric monsters, mutants, black magic and the mad doctor of Blood Island, Dr. Akira Lorca, reside. Lorca’s experiments with a jungle plant serum, and various species from the island, have turned a dying man, Don Ramon Lopez, into the undying Beast of Blood, a head-hunting, body-swapping zombie whose insatiable appetite for sex is as extreme as his taste for human flesh. While the Beast of Blood terrorizes the native population, the American soldiers’ mission is to exterminate the war criminal Lorca and to retrieve his formula for reanimating the dead for combat. Their journey through the Blood Island jungle becomes a tale of high adventure, horror and survival when the soldier-of-fortune’s estranged daughter and adopted son come along for the ride.
The third Kickstarter campaign is up and running for Issues #3 and #4 of TALES OF BLOOD ISLAND which will be released to backers this September along with other BEAST OF BLOOD ISLAND monster merchandise including tiki mugs, cabanas, tees, an action figure, plus Blu-rays of the Blood Island movies and more. "This hauntingly original psychological horror tale transforms the cozy comfort of a classic sitcom into a mesmerizing nightmare. After the death of her mother, Evelyn finds herself isolated in a small Norwegian town, cut off from her old life and struggling under the thumb of her overbearing aunt. Desperate for escape, she becomes obsessed with an American sitcom centered around Sandy’s, a charming neighborhood coffee shop.
But soon, the characters begin speaking directly to her. Sandy welcomes her with open arms. Vincent and Jen treat her like family. Inside their perfectly lit world, every problem has a happy ending—and Evelyn finally feels like she belongs. As fantasy and reality blur, Evelyn must choose between confronting her painful life or surrendering to a picture-perfect illusion that may never let her go.
Darkly funny, deeply unsettling, and chillingly inventive, LIFE AT SANDY’S is a twisted descent into grief, loneliness, and the seductive danger of living inside the glow of a laugh track."
