Although it wasn’t his first on-screen appearance, Friday the 13th Part 3 introduced the hockey mask version of Jason Voorhees that we all know and love today, and it also showed us an ever-evolving Jason who was as resourceful as a boy scout with his wide range of weapons. Sideshow Collectibles captures everything that’s great and scary about Part 3 Jason with their new sixth scale figure of the Crystal Lake killer, and they sent one our way to check out.

As per usual with a Sideshow Collectibles release, the box art for this sixth scale figure could be displayed on its own, with blood spatter and moonlit woods making an eerie backdrop to Jason’s imposing stance, complete with a machete in hand.

The real treat, of course, lies within the box, and I practically expect to hear Harry Manfredini’s iconic score when I crack open the lid. Upon hearing no “ki, ki, ki, ma, ma, ma” or a twig snapping behind me (you never know, even while indoors), I pull Jason out of the box and immediately admired his wardrobe: a dark green work shirt and gray slacks with a crimson spatter that also appears on his work boots. It’s classic Jason, capped off with poor Shelly’s hockey mask that has become synonymous with the character.

The design team did an impeccable job creating the hockey mask, with Jason’s icy blue eyes staring unblinking (at least I hope they don’t blink when I’m not looking) from underneath his goalie gear. Cloth straps keep the hockey mask in place, adding more realism to the piece, but the real highlight of Jason’s upper body is his neck, which swivels down and to the sides for plenty of poses, including Jason’s sideways tilt that’s akin to a curious child seeing something that piques their interest (in Jason’s case, usually his next victim).

Sculpted to match the late Richard Brooker’s appearance as Jason in Friday the 13th Part 3, this sixth scale figure has a towering presence that makes it seem even larger than its 12-inch height. Adding to the figure’s intimidation factor are three weapons, as Jason’s arsenal this time around includes an axe and machete—both of them blood-stained—as well as a spear gun that’s perfect for setting sights on those rambunctious young folks partying at Higgins Haven.

The variety of weapons allows for many new ways to display Jason in your own home (whether it’s on a shelf in the den or the centerpiece of the dining room table—I recommend the latter), and Sideshow also ensures functionality by providing three interchangeable hands to go with the two already on the figure, including one with a trigger finger for the spear gun (so you might want to tell your other collectibles to watch out).

Sideshow Collectibles has outdone themselves yet again with another great release for all those Camp Crystal Lake campers out there. With Friday the 13th Part 3 celebrating its 35th anniversary this summer, it’s great to see the release of a new collectible that really captures the killer spirit of one of the most pivotal films in the franchise. Even Shelly would be proud to see his hockey mask displayed in such fine fashion, even if it is being worn by the guy who killed him.
