We're back with another edition of the Indie Spotlight, highlighting recent independent horror news sent our way. Today's feature includes Save Yourself first details, a new clip from The Well, a look at the first four minutes from Discopath, the teaser trailer for Bestseller, and much more:

New Clip from The Well and Screening Details: "At the edge of an expansive barren valley, all that remains of The Wallace Farm for Wayward Youth is a few hollowed-out husks of buildings. Seventeen-year-old Kendal (Haley Lu Richardson) can barely recall when the Oregon valley was still lush. It's been a decade since the last rainfall, and society at large has dried up and blown away. Kendal and the few others that remain barely scrape by, while dreaming of escape. When a greedy water baron lays claim to what little of the precious resource remains underground, Kendal must decide whether to run and hide or bravely fight for the few cherished people and things she has left.

In this finely crafted post-apocalyptic thriller, writer/director Tom Hammock keeps the action firmly grounded in an arid and gritty reality. Drawing on his experience as a production designer and graphic novelist, Hammock creates a convincing world ravaged by environmental disaster, where beliefs demand action and blood is spilled more easily than water.

The Well stars Haley Lu Richardson in a breakout role as a young woman with grit, smarts, and an incredible will to survive.

Directed by Tom Hammock (You’re Next, All the Boys Love Mandy Lane) and written by Hammock and Jacob Forman. Produced by Jacob Forman, Seth Caplan, and Chris Harding. Executive produced by Dante Federighi and Billy Federighi. With cinematography by Seamus Tierney, editing by Sarah Broshar and Adam Wingard, and music by Craig DeLeon. A Federighi Films Production.

Additional cast includes: Booboo Stewart (Twilight), Jon Gries (Taken, Napoleon Dynamite), Nicole Fox (America’s Next Top Model winner), Michael McCartney (The Amazing Spiderman), Michael Welch (Twilight), Rena Owens, Max Charles (The Amazing Spiderman), Jacqueline Emerson (The Hunger Games), Barbara Crampton (Re-Animator, You're Next), and Michael Massee (Se7en).

The Well will have its World Premiere in The Beyond Category at the 2014 Los Angeles Film Festival.

The Well will screen at the following dates and times:

Thursday, June 12 at 9:15PM - Regal Cinemas 9
Tuesday, June 17 at 9:25PM - Regal Cinemas 12."

First Details from Save Yourself: "En route to L.A., director Crystal Lacroix, along with by-the-numbers producer Dawn Summerville, neurotic writer Lizzy Miller, and star sisters Kim and Sasha Tobin, are riding high after a successful screening of their new horror film. But when Crystal goes missing at a rest stop, their mood suddenly changes. The others, splitting up to search for Crystal, spot an isolated farmhouse and enlist the help of its owners, quickly discovering that appearances are not always what they seem. Life imitates art as all five ladies find themselves pitted against a deranged couple hell-bent on using them for their mysterious research. Who will survive and what will be the fate of their ultimate discovery?

Following the success of his recent features, Sick, a festival favorite and Black Eve, award-winning director Ryan M. Andrews is set to direct his originally scripted Save Yourself this summer. Scream Queen Jessica Cameron will be starring in as well as producing this sexy horror flick along with Producer Emma Sutherland. Overseeing the project are executive producers Pino Halili and Allen Ormerod from multi-award winning studio Post City Sound Inc.

Having worked together in the past, Andrews and Cameron have discussed collaborating on a feature for years. Together they decided that Ryan’s script Save Yourself is the ideal choice. Award winning actor Ry Barrett (Neverlost, Desperate Souls, Antisocial) will join the cast as Save Yourself's intense villain. This will be the first time Andrews, Cameron and Barret have collaborated since last year’s experimental short film Klymene.

Cameron was recently quoted as saying “This script is the sexiest and smartest female-driven horror flick that I have had the pleasure to read and I cannot wait to bring it to life with Ryan”.

Talking about the female-driven story Andrews says, “I love Jean-Luc Godard’s quote ‘all you need for a movie is a gun and a girl.’ In the same way all you need for a horror is blood and a girl - and we’ve got five girls. It’s definitely going to be fun and sexy, but most importantly the women are not just one-dimensional. There is a lot of depth and development to their characters. And as a die-hard horror fan, I know just how important this is. It can’t just be another pretty face. There needs to be layers there for anyone to care when that face gets smashed.”

Filming begins later this year in Ontario, Canada. Expect more Save Yourself updates including full cast details coming soon!"

Watch 'Anger of the Dead': "Alice and Nicholas survived an epidemic that ravaged the world, now only inhabited by the undead. But the nightmare is not over; the rumbling of a motorcycle approaches, breaking the silence…

After the short has participated in many important international festivals including the 34th edition of Fantasporto, the Festival du Film Fantastique de Rouen, the Serbian Festival of Fantastic Film, and won the award for Best Short Film at the latest edition of the Tohorror Film Fest, and the Best Director at Interiora Horror Fest, is finally online "Anger of the Dead".

The zombie-short written, directed and self-produced by Francesco Picone, was created independently, and has subsequently attracted the interest of the well-known director and producer Uwe Boll, who in collaboration with Extreme Video has decided to produce the film version.

“This no-budget short film was shot on a Canon 600D with only two lenses. We hope this goes to show what a little passion, love, and dedication can produce. Never let the lack of equipment, gear, or money slow you down.” Francesco Picone."

Trailer and Impressions for 'A Wife Alone'

by Kristian Hanson

The film opens with a girl running down an alleyway, but no real information is given as to why she is running. The outfit she is wearing can lead to speculation as to her profession, or possibly just a night out of the town with girls that possibly went awry. Quickly it is fast forwarded to her with her husband inside a house that she is painting. They discuss hanging drapes, but have to get to their friend Steve and Holly's house for a get together. Once they leave for the house, that is when the back story begins and where the true story comes out of why she was running that night.

A Wife Alone was written and directed by Justin Reichman. This is a film that has strong points when it comes to the acting, with Genevieve Hudson-Price's performance carrying the overall movie. I can also say the same for the actor who plays Steve (Sean Patrick Reilly). When they are on the screen together, there is a certain type of dread, as the Steve character is just sleazy and you cannot stand him.

Overall, the film had a nice cast of actors and the sound was fantastic. The script had some issues that I wish would have been tweaked in certain areas, but it was a nicely shot first feature film by Justin Reichman and I look forward to his other projects in the future.

Tamika hails from North Beach, Maryland, a tiny town inches from the Chesapeake Bay.She knew she wanted to be an actor after reciting a soliloquy by Sojourner Truth in front of her entire fifth grade class. Since then, she's appeared in over 20 film and television projects. In addition to acting, Tamika is the Indie Spotlight manager for Daily Dead, where she brings readers news on independent horror projects every weekend.

The first horror film Tamika watched was Child's Play. Being eight years old at the time, she remembers being so scared when Chucky came to life that she projectile vomited. It's tough for her to choose only one movie as her favorite horror film, so she picked two: Nosferatu and The Stepford Wives (1975).
