Is Amber Heard Red Sonja?

Nu Image will be releasing a new Conan movie to theaters later this year and are planning to create a new version of Red Sonja as a follow up. While talking to Empire Online, producer Avi Lerner mentioned that the top choice for the role is Amber Heard, who can be seen later this month in Drive Angry 3D.

" 'We're talking to a few girls for the role of Sonja,' he says, 'but we just finished a movie called Drive Angry with Amber Heard, and I want to see her. She's my favourite for the role.' "

Also mentioned was Simon West (Con Air) as a possible director: "We will definitely shoot Red Sonja in between Conan and Conan 2. We already chose the director: an English guy called Simon West."

Although Red Sonja started off in the Conan comics, I'd really like to see more stories from the world Robert E. Howard created and am curious to see what they do with Conan, Red Sonja, and planned sequels. At the moment no deals are in place, but with Conan almost wrapped up, I'd expect more information on Red Sonja in the very near future.
