No stranger to killer doll movies (having directed Dead Silence and produced the Annabelle films), James Wan is re-teaming with Jason Blum (after collaborating on the Insidious movies) to produce a new creepy doll movie called M3GAN, with Housebound director Gerard Johnstone at the helm.

The Hollywood Reporter revealed the initial news on M3GAN, which is expected to start filming this fall from a screenplay by Akela Cooper (American Horror Story, Luke Cage).

According to THR, the horror film will follow "a brilliant toy company roboticist who uses artificial intelligence to develop M3GAN, a life-like doll programmed to emotionally bond with her newly orphaned niece. But when the doll’s programming works too well, she becomes overprotective of her new friend…with terrifying results."

Wan explained the tech-centric concept of the film to THR, telling them, “Pretty much the concept is about embracing technology too much and relying too much on it, and what happens with technology runs amok. It’s a commentary on the world we live in and it feels relevant.”

Blum told THR that Johnstone was brought in as director in part to help bring the dark humor of the screenplay to life, something that Johnstone did in his previous film, Housebound.

Michael Clear from Wan's Atomic Monster label will also executive produce with Judson Scott overseeing the project for the banner. Also on board as executive producer is Blumhouse's Couper Samuelson, with Ryan Turek supervising the movie for Blumhouse. Stay tuned to Daily Dead for more updates on M3GAN.
