Following the announcement that Golden Globe and Academy Award nominee Adriana Barraza will star as Lupita in Gigi Saul Guerrero's new movie Bingo, it's now been revealed that Joshua Caleb Johnson (The Good Lord Bird, Snowfall) has joined the cast as Caleb in the film that's part of Blumhouse and Amazon's new "Welcome to the Blumhouse" lineup:

Joshua Caleb Johnson (The Good Lord Bird, Snowfall) has been cast in Bingo, the upcoming film in the Welcome to the Blumhouse slate from Blumhouse Television and Amazon Studios, directed and co-written by Gigi Saul Guerrero, currently in production.

He will star as the character of “Caleb”, a teenager being raised by a single mother and living in his grandmother Dolores’ home, torn between his anger at the tough hand he’s been dealt in life and longing for connection, love and acceptance.

Johnson received acclaim and is nominated for a Critics Choice Award for Best Supporting Actor in a Limited Series or Movie Made for Television for his breakout role as Henry “Onion” Shackleford in Blumhouse Television’s critically acclaimed series The Good Lord Bird on Showtime.

The Good Lord Bird is told from the point of view of “Onion”, a fictional enslaved boy who meets John Brown (Ethan Hawke) and finds himself swept up in the abolitionist crusade to end slavery. Along the way, Onion discovers more than just the ways of the world as he navigates the perils of his newfound “freedom” trying to survive.

The limited series based on James McBride’s award-winning novel is Certified Fresh on Rotten Tomatoes (98%), and has been named one of AFI’s Top TV Shows of 2020 and was selected by Barack Obama as one of the greatest shows of 2020. Johnson stars opposite series co-creator and star, Academy Award winner Ethan Hawke

Bingo marks Joshua Caleb Johnson’s second collaboration with Blumhouse in a role that showcases a different side of the talented young actor. Johnson was selected for Variety’s Up Next list in their annual 2020 Power of Young Hollywood issue highlighting up-and-coming actors.

As previously announced, Bingo is one of the upcoming films in Amazon Prime Video’s Welcome to the Blumhouse program of genre, horror-thriller films highlighting female and emerging filmmakers, and diverse casts with new and established actors in unexpected roles.
