Not long after Kevin Bacon revealed that a pilot episode for the new Tremors series was in the works at Syfy, the network has officially announced that they have officially ordered the pilot episode starring Kevin bacon as Valentine "Val" McKee.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the new Tremors series "picks up 25 years after the events of the film and finds Valentine McKee (Bacon) attempting to save the town again — but this time, also battling age, alcohol and a delusional hero complex." Press Release: UNIVERSAL CITY, CA -- June 26, 2017 -- SYFY announced today that TREMORS, starring Kevin Bacon reprising his original role from the 1990 film of the same name, has been ordered to pilot. From Universal Cable Productions, the drama was written by Andrew Miller ("The Secret Circle"), who will also serve as showrunner and executive producer along with Bacon and David Schiff (“Southpaw”) in association with Blumhouse Television.

“This is the only character I've played that I've ever thought about revisiting. I just got to thinking, where would this guy end up after 25 years?” commented Bacon. “Andrew Miller has a fantastic take on it and we hope to create a show that will be fun and scary for fans of the movie and folks that have yet to discover it. Let's kick some Graboid ass!”

The killer Graboid worms that nearly destroyed Perfection, Nevada 25 years ago are back, and the town’s only hope for survival is Valentine McKee (Bacon) who beat them once. But to do it again he’ll have to overcome age, alcohol and a delusional hero complex.

"We are so pleased to continue our partnership with SYFY and UCP in reviving this cult classic with none other than Kevin Bacon as Valentine McKee; we look forward to thrilling original fans and new audiences alike," commented Blumhouse founder, Jason Blum.

Previously: Back in 2015, news broke that Kevin Bacon was looking to return to Perfection as Valentine “Val” McKee in a new Tremors TV series. While we haven't heard much about the project lately, the silence was recently broken like a Graboid bursting through the surface when Bacon revealed that the pilot episode for the series is in the works at Syfy channel.

Speaking with ScreenDaily at the Edinburgh International Film Festival, Bacon mentioned that the pilot episode for the new Tremors TV series is moving forward at Syfy.

Bacon will produce the project with Jason Blum of Blumhouse, with a eight episodes reportedly planned should the series move forward beyond the pilot episode stage.

In addition to producing, Bacon will also reprise his role as Valentine “Val” McKee from the 1990 film, with the series showing what life is like for the survivor about a quarter of a century after the fateful Graboid attacks in the desert. It was previously reported that Andrew Miller (The Secret Circle) is writing the series.

While four Tremors film sequels have been released after the first movie's debut in 1990, Bacon is more focused on following the events of the original movie than those that followed it, as he previously told Collider:

"They went and made a bunch of sequels to the movie. I want to put those aside because, first of all, I wasn’t in them. But what I was really interested in was taking this guy and, 25 years later, seeing what happened to him, to his dreams, and to his life. Andrew Miller, who’s writing the script, came up with this really, really interesting take on it, and I think it could be a lot of fun."

This wouldn't be the first Tremors series to hit the small screen, as fans are familiar with the short-lived Tremors: The Series, which aired on the Sci-Fi Channel in 2003. The most recent entry in the franchise will be Tremors 6, starring Michael Gross as gun enthusiast Burt Gummer, who took over as the leading man in the sequels. Tremors 6 is set to be released on Blu-ray, DVD, and Digital HD on January 30th, 2018.

Other than Bacon as Val, it's currently unknown who else would appear in the series. Could we see the return of Fred Ward’s Earl Basset, Reba McEntire’s Heather Gummer, or Gross' beloved Burt Gummer? Only time will tell, as there's no word yet on when we can expect to see the new Tremors TV series, but we'll keep Daily Dead readers updated on more details as they break through the surface like a Graboid going after its next meal. In the meantime, what do you want to see in a new Tremors series?
