Similar to how Trick ’r Treat has become synonymous with Halloween, Michael Dougherty's Krampus has become an integral part of the holiday season, warming horror fans' hearts with seasonal scares and one hell of a demonic creature to fear. And while it may be some time before we see that titular demonic character from Krampus and real-life lore being sold as a decoration in department stores, one fan of the film decided to avoid the naughty wait list by making his own Krampus display, and it is truly a seven-foot-tall miracle to give thanks to this holiday season.
Created by Reddit and Imgur user Tyler Garner, this seven-foot-tall Krampus display is the perfect way to spread the holiday cheer while scaring off any unwelcome carolers. On Imgur, Garner shared his step-by-step process for making the ambitious Krampus decoration.
Starting with a solid base, Garner used galvanized pipes as the bones for his Krampus, building them up to form a makeshift skeleton of legs and hunched shoulders before adding a foam head on a PVC pipe. Using an idea from StiltbeastStudios to flesh out the shoulders, Garner added on pipes for arms and solidified the spine with Great Stuff before beefing out the arms with black tubing cut in half.
Then things got really creepy when Garner covered the foam head with an official Krampus mask from Trick or Treat Studios based on the creature's appearance in Michael Dougherty's 2015 holiday horror film. He also added a sheet (it looks like a clean painter's cloth will do just fine) on the skeletal structure and painted it twice—once with truck bed liner (to keep it relatively waterproof) and once with a deep red.
Next, Garner placed white, fluffy trim on the makeshift red robe and added patches to reflect the creature's appearance in the Krampus movie. Plastic chains from Party City were the next additions to this wicked wardrobe, followed by painted giant sleigh bells. Skeletal hands made from floral department materials were then inserted onto the arms, with painted clay hooves added in place of feet. The outstretched right arm was then given an LED lantern to hold, giving the demonic holiday presence the final perfect touch before bringing him on top of the roof as a reminder for all of Garner's neighbors to stay on the nice list this holiday season.
