Fans are anxiously awaiting new details on American Horror Story Season 2 because we know so little at this point. Because the second season will feature a new location, theme, and characters, it is almost like a brand new series each season. Thankfully, Ryan Murphy was happy to share some new details during a recent appearance.

He confirmed to THR that previous news that the show would take place at an institution, but revealed that it will be run by Jessica Lange's new character: "[Season 2] is set on the East Coast at an institution for the criminally insane that is run by Jessica..."

An interesting new piece of news is that the second season will take place in a different time period: "It's a completely different world and has nothing to do with Season 1; there's not a mention of Season 1... The second season is set in a completely different time period."

Jessica Lange, Zachary Quinto, Sarah Paulson, Even Peters, and Lily Rabe will all be making a return to the show, but will be playing new characters. Casting is still underway for new actors, with Lizzie Brocheré and Maroon 5 singer Adam Levine already signed on. Ryan Murphy teased that additional season 1 actors could show up as well:

"The idea is to work with actors that you love and are excited by. The second season, everybody who was announced, there will be other people up on this stage who are not announced who will also be in it but are playing the polar opposite of what they were in the first season in every way"

Actors not confirmed for season 2 who were on stage with him at the time included Connie Britton, Dylan McDermott, Alexandra Breckenridge, Denis O'Hare, and Evan Peters.
