Second Sight Publishing recently announced "More Chills and Thrills" in the next SHOOK! horror anthology graphic novel SONGS OF THE DARK SIRENS. It's due out this October from Second Sight Publishing and Dark Horse Comics, and I caught up with Second Sight Publishing's Bradley Golden for our latest Q&A, talking horror influences, upcoming titles, and advice for creators. We also have preview art from his upcoming haunted comic story, GET THE F*CK OUT!, that you can check out below!
Where did your love of horror come from? Is there a particular film, book, or comic that made you a lifelong horror fan?
Bradley Golden: My love for horror stems from my childhood. As a child with a speech impediment, I didn’t have many friends. I had to rely on comics and horror movies to keep me company. I remember the first movie I ever saw was a B horror movie called House!
What was the initial reason behind setting up your own publishing company with Second Sight Publishing?
Bradley Golden: I wanted to create a hub where up-and-coming talent with unique voices could show their love of horror and sci-fi with no restraints.
You’ve been able to assemble an incredibly talented group of writers and artists for your horror anthologies. What is the most exciting or rewarding aspect of working with so many people on an anthology?
Bradley Golden: Yes, it has been very amazing how so many creators have such a wide range of ideas and styles could mix so well to tell a very potent story in such an original idea or theme, if you will. These creators are at the top of their game and working with them has been both great and a blessing.
I understand another volume of SHOOK is on the way later this year. Can you give our readers a little tease of what they can expect?
Bradley Golden: Yes, we at Second Sight Publishing, have yet again partnered with Dark Horse Comics to continue our Shook franchise with SHOOK! Songs of the Dark Sirens. Which we assemble yet again a care of award winning black female writers, artists, editors with unique voices to tell some of the most thought provocative stories I personally have read in a long time. I’m sure fans will be very happy with what the ladies have created.
Who are the creators that have inspired you over the years and are there recent horror releases (movies, TV, video games or anything else) that you really loved?
Bradley Golden: Growing up, I really loved Stephen King, Wes Craven, John Carpenter, and Clive Barker. Now there are some new faces in horror that I enjoy like Jordan Peele, Sam Raimi, and James Wan, just to name a few. Recently, I have enjoyed The Conjuring universe, and anything Jordan Peele. I just saw Sinners and was amazed by the job Ryan Coogler done. Kudos to him for a huge hit. First in a franchise, I hope.
Aside from SHOOK, are there any other releases coming out of Second Sight Publishing that you’d like to tell our readers about?
Bradley Golden: Yes, I currently have a new title cooking up called GET THE F*CK OUT! Which is my take on the haunted house theme in comic book form, and we have a WW2 horror-themed anthology, named NO MAN’S LAND, coming down the pike early 2026. We will continue with the Marcus H Roberts anthology HARVEST OF HORRORS throughout 2025 and early 2026, with a few more surprises in store.
What advice do you have for our readers who may be looking to create and/or publish their own comic books?
Bradley Golden: Get out there and do it. Just don’t continue to talk about doing it. Sitting idle on great story ideas won’t allow your dreams to come true.
Are there any events that you’ll be attending this year that you want to share with our readers?
Bradley Golden: Yes, if my health permits, I’ll be at San Diego Comic Con this year and Spooky Empire.
