In 6:45, "a couple embarks on a weekend getaway only to find the island curiously deserted. After stumbling upon the town’s dark secret, they trigger a time loop, forcing them to relive a demented cycle of terror with seemingly no means of escape." In our latest Q&A, actress Augie Duke talks about the challenges of filming a time loop movie, her experience filming at a haunted location, and more!

What attracted you to the role of Jules and the story of 6:45?

I liked how real the relationship between Jules and Bobby felt. I liked her authenticity. Also, it was a chance to work with my real-life partner, Michael Reed. We have real chemistry, and it contributed to the believability of our roles.

What kind of preparation did you do for the role and story? Were there any specific reference movies or books that Craig Singer suggested?

My mindset was just to come across as real – to be an ordinary person in an extraordinary situation.

Craig Singer suggested we look at “Magic,” the 1978 film starring Anthony Hopkins and Ann-Margaret… He felt there was something to be learned from Hopkins’s character Corky and his pursuit of Peggy Ann.

With this movie having a time loop element, similar to Groundhog Day, what was the most difficult (or fascinating) element of playing a character where the day stays the same?

The most demanding part was what they call “block shooting.” Doing the same thing at different times in the movie. And even though it was the same scene, his character was aware of the repetition, but mine wasn’t. So, I had to play off his puzzling emotions.

I understand that filming took place at an old (and haunted!) bed and breakfast in New Jersey. What was your favorite on-set experience?

I am a total skeptic, but this actually happened: We were sleeping in the same room as our characters slept in, in the film. One night, around three in the morning, we were awakened by the venetian blinds opening and closing on their own. Freaky! And on a couple of nights, our bed moved by itself as if there were an earthquake. But it was New Jersey, and there are no earthquakes in New Jersey.

With 6:45 now available everywhere, what projects do you have coming up next?

I have a couple of movies coming out that I’m really proud of. One is “Moon Garden,” in which I play the mother of a little girl who slips into a coma and must journey through an industrial wonderland. It’s shot entirely on 35mm film.

Also, “Breathing Happy,” a family drama, in which I play the adopted sister, Lilly, whose brother is a recovering drug addict fighting his demons.

I have a couple of other things in the works, which I’m excited to talk about when they let me.
