Silent Hill: Revelation 3D Announced

There has been talk of a sequel to Silent Hill since the first film was released in 2006. Now we have official word coming from the American Film Market, announcing the film's name and director/writer, as well as a brief plot synopsis. The official title of the sequel will be Silent Hill: Revelation 3D and is being produced by the same team responsible for the original Silent Hill and most recently, Resident Evil: Afterlife 3D.

Christophe Gans will not be returning to the director chair for this film, as both the directing and writing duties for the new Silent Hill will be taken over by Michael J. Bassett, probably best known as the director/writer of Solomon Kane.

As for the plot, a basic synopsis was provided in a press release issued today:

"For years, Heather Mason and her father have been on the run, always one step ahead of dangerous forces that she doesn’t fully understand. Now on the eve of her 18th birthday, plagued by terrifying nightmares and the disappearance of her father, Heather discovers she's not who she thinks she is. The revelation leads her deeper into a demonic world that threatens to trap her in Silent Hill forever."

I'll be interested in finding out more about the plot and how closely this will follow the game series. For those that play the Silent Hill games, the name "Heather Mason" should be familiar as she was the main female playable character in the Silent Hill 3 video game.

Silent Hill: Revelation 3D begins filming this winter in Toronto, so expect plenty of Silent Hill-related news in the coming months.
