Growing up, there was one man who brought so many of my favorite cinematic creatures to life and that was legendary special effects master Stan Winston. For over three decades, Winston was responsible for some of the horror and sci-fi genres most iconic creations and made many of us fans believe in the existence of Aliens, Predators, and Terminators.
Before Daily Dead begins its live coverage of this year’s San Diego Comic-Con, a place where many go to celebrate the ever-evolving world of genre entertainment and its icons, we thought this was the perfect time to stop and pay tribute to Winston, one of the most influential monster makers of all time.
Starting on Monday, July 7th, we will be celebrating Stan Winston Week right here with seven days of exclusive interviews and never-before-seen photos that celebrate Winston’s vision, his legacy in the industry, and put the spotlight on five different films he worked on during his decades-spanning career, including The Terminator, Aliens, Predator, Leviathan and Lake Placid.
For each day, the Stan Winston School of Character Arts has provided us with behind-the-scenes stills for each film and on Saturday, July 12th we will also be exclusively revealing the brand new creation from the Stan Winston School of Character Arts that will be making its debut during Comic-Con next month.
Genre fans and special effects geeks are not going to want to miss any of this, so be sure to head back here on July 7th for all kinds of awesomeness that we have planned for our Stan Winston Week celebration.
