Starz continues their push into original TV series development and announced two new projects, including Vlad Dracula from J. Michael Straczynski and Roy Lee:

As part of STARZ overall deal with “Spartacus” creator Steven S. DeKnight, STARZ is developing “Incursion,” an epic science fiction action-thriller that follows a squad of soldiers caught in a war against a hostile alien race. Each season the battle will be fought on a new, exotic planet as humanity punches deeper into enemy territory. Grittily realistic combat, darkly complex characters and intrigue on a cosmic scale will permeate the tale of fighting men and women facing the pressures of war and an enemy unlike any ever seen. In addition to his international acclaim on “Spartacus,” Steven has worked on such well-regarded series as “Buffy The Vampire Slayer,” “Angel,” “Smallville,” and “Dollhouse.”

J. Michael Straczynski is the wildly successful writer and producer whose credits include such fan classics as Thor, Underworld: Awakening, “Babylon 5,” and The Changeling. He has teamed with horror master Roy Lee, whose credits include such hits as The Ring, The Strangers, and The Woman in Black in developing "Vlad Dracula" with veteran producer Rob Tapert, whose credits include the international STARZ hit series, “Spartacus,” iconic “Xena: Warrior Princess,” Evil Dead and The Grudge. The project is a unique spin of the classic tale, blending the historical facts of the 15th century Prince of Wallachia, with the fictional Dracula whose story is known around the world and continues to fascinate audiences. “Vlad Dracula” traces his evolution from a revered ruler to the world's most feared vampire, and his slow downfall as he struggles desperately to hang on to his humanity, his wife and his kingdom.

Managing Director of Starz, Carmi Zlotnik said “Steven S. DeKnight, J. Michael Straczynski, Roy Lee and Rob Tapert are legendary talents, having created some of the most groundbreaking and iconic television series with incredibly passionate fan bases the world over. We are thrilled to work with such sophisticated auteurs and producers as we grow the slate of unique STARZ Original series.”

Why is it so difficult for Hollywood to keep the two completely different Dracula’s separate????? HISTORICALLY > please, When You state “Historical” you are fabricating information when you mix Bram Stokers novel with the 15th century Wallachian prince. Anyone who knows anything about the two SEPARATE subjects of Dracula’s realize from Bram Stokers own notes, (that are housed at the Rosebbach Museum,in Philidelphia )that Stoker had ALREADY began his novel and titled it Count Wampire, then after completing most of his novel he found the name, Dracula in ONLY two paragraphs of a book and then and only then changed the name…. NEVER was Vlad Dracula, the 15th century Prince ANY inspiration for this novel. YET….. You continue to claim historical information. You are sure to fail. The ONLY way you will succeed is if you take the VAMPIRE fiction out of the HISTORICAL aspects of Vlad Dracula’s life. Real life “History” is much better than fiction.

  • ur right. im from romania and if hey mix the prince with vampires it will ruin the show. iv seen so many movies and series about vampires im sick of it.

Vlad the Impaler waz a ruthless king but he was not a vampire.
that director and producer shuld chek on wiki or call a roumainian historic for more information.
if they want that the show, to have succes to public, they realy need to do some deep research about this subject.
the mix of Vlad with vampires can have a huge succes or not al all.
    bee carefull

I agree, I was under the impression it would be a series focused on Vlad Tepes himself and not the vampire crap. Enough of that going around anyway.

Show us the real horrors of Vlad Tepes and an insight into his psychology from when he returned from Turkey to Wallachia following the death of his father and brother.

Just the real portrayal and life of Vlad the Impaler will get many peoples attention. You make it about vampires and you are just competing with the rest of the garbage out there about vampires at the moment.

Don’t get me wrong, I love vampires but the modern portrayal of vampires is mostly crap for teenage girls.
