Status Update on Jurassic Park 4

During a recent interview, Steven Spielberg gave a status update on multiple projects, including Jurassic Park 4. Earlier this year, reports started coming out that Universal was looking at rebooting Jurassic Park in an attempt to leverage some of their more successful franchises rather than rely on new properties.

At Comic-Con, Spielberg confirmed this report, saying that there is a story in place and that he expected the film to arrive in 2-3 years. In today's interview with Empire, Steven Spielberg mentioned that he still plans to direct a new Jurassic Park film in the next few years and that Mark Protosevich (I Am Legend, The Cell, Thor) is currently writing the script:

"The screenplay is being written right now by Mark Protosevich. I'm hoping that will come out in the next couple of years. We have a good story. We have a better story for four than we had for three..."

And what about all that talk of another Indiana Jones film? At this point, it is all up to George Lucas, who is working on the new story: "You have to ask George Lucas. George is in charge of breaking the stories. He's done it on all four movies. Whether I like the stories or not, George has broken all the stories. He is working on Indy V. We haven't gone to screenplay yet, but he's working on the story. I'll leave it to George to come up with a good story."
