In addition to sharing their love of horror on Daily Dead, our team of writers stay busy pursuing other passion projects on the creative front, and Sam Hart is certainly no exception. Readers of his Graphic Nature column know that Hart has a deep interest and understanding of macabre music and terrifying tunes, and he's teamed up with artist Trevor "Morbid" Markwart to channel that passion into an EC Comics-style exploration of black metal in a new graphic novel called Tales From the Black Circle.

Set to kick off an Indiegogo campaign shortly, Tales From the Black Circle captures the spirit of EC Comics with eye-popping artwork and eerie dialogue dripping with equal parts horror and humor. As the black metal scene in the late ’80s and early ’90s proved, sometimes the truth is stranger than fiction, and Tales From the Black Circle dives into shocking true stories of a time of turmoil, experimentation, and creepy creativity in the black metal music scene. Keep an eye on Tales From the Black Circle's official Facebook page for the latest news on the graphic novel and its Indiegogo campaign, and check out more details, a teaser video, and preview pages below:

"As innovative as it was horrific, Norway’s contribution to the underground metal scene in the late ’80s and early ’90s left classic albums, charred churches, and real corpses. While these sadistic Scandinavian stories have been told many times in documentaries and online blogs, Tales From the Black Circle is the first of its kind to tackle these tales in ghastly graphic fashion.

Paying homage to EC’s landmark line of horror comics, Tales From the Black Circle contains three tales of true life terror, all torn out of the pages of Norwegian Black Metal history. Rigorously researched using both primary and secondary sources (roughly 50% of written material is based upon direct quotes from individuals and interviews conducted for research purposes), these stories of frightful non-fiction will educate as well as entertain the reader who has an interest in black metal, EC horror, music history, crime, and comic books.

Written by Daily Dead’s Sam Hart (KEXP, Beatdust.com) and beautifully drawn by Trevor "Morbid" Markwart, Tales From the Black Circle takes meticulous care in recreating the nostalgia of yesteryear print media, complete with a parody of the shameless comic book ads that rummaged the pocket money of countless children across the country, all with a black metal twist!

Check out the Tales from the Black Circle on Facebook for information about their upcoming Indiegogo campaign launching shortly!"
