There have been many new horror movie announcements this over the last week due to promotion and sales going on during the Cannes Film Festival. On Monday, we had news of a new Texas Chainsaw film moving forward that has been referred to in the past as Leatherface 3D.

Apparently, it will be a direct sequel to the original 1974 classic film, but taking place in the present day. It was also made known that the new producers had secured the rights to make up to six films, so they are thinking of this as a potential major franchise.

Sales art from Cannes has been seen, referring to the film as The Texas Chainsaw Massacre 3D and notes a summer 2012 release date. Is this just the international title and being used for promotion or are they dropping the Leatherface 3D title? We expect an official press release once the new director has been locked in.
