AMC has made a number of announcements regarding the structure of The Walking Dead's second season release schedule, which includes a 90-minute premiere. The 13 episode second season will kick off with a 90-minute premiere episode on Sunday, October 16th at 9PM.

Behind-the-scenes drama continues on the set of The Walking Dead, as a new report confirms that AMC executives have flown to the set in an attempt to calm down tension after the firing of showrunner Frank Darabont:

"AMC president Charlie Collier and head of original programming Joel Stillerman on Thursday flew to Atlanta for a one-day visit to the production offices of The Walking Dead, where they met with a cast and crew roiled by the abrupt firing of showrunner Frank Darabont.

The departure of Frank Darabont from The Walking Dead TV Series was shock, mainly because they were in the middle of filming the second season and there were no signs of this coming at the Comic-Con panel he attended a few days earlier.

From a recent story that provides new details, it looks like Frank Darabont didn't know he was leaving the show either during Comic-Con. Apparently AMC fired him with little warning, and despite reports, the cast and crew are having a difficult time adjusting.

It appears that The Walking Dead Season 2 is going to fill some of the gaps between the time Rick enters the hospital and the time he wakes up. Sarah Wayne Callies recently spoke with TV Guide and discussed filming a flashback scene for the upcoming season:

"It was fun to step out of the zombie world and show Lori with a BlackBerry... The scene underscores how deeply Lori and Shane love [her son] Carl, plus I hope it will finally put to bed the ridiculous rumors that an affair was going on before [Lori's husband and Shane's friend] Rick 'died.' "

It was revealed during Comic-Con that Greg Nicotero would be directing an upcoming episode of The Walking Dead, but now new details have emerged. According to Bloody Disgusting, Nicotero will direct a series of 6 webisodes that will premiere this fall.

Written by John Esposito, the webisodes will "follow Hannah and her children who take shelter in her ex-husband's house from a horde of zombies". Shooting is expected to begin next month and we'll have more information as it comes in.
