Godzilla not only crushed the competition this weekend, but it exceeded expectations by earning nearly $100 million at the box office. With an estimated production budget of $160 million, which does not include marketing expenses, Godzilla is off to a strong start. In the US, the movie has earned $93.2 million and it has taken in over $100 million internationally. *Update: Warner Bros. and Legendary Pictures just announced that they are moving forward with a sequel.
Neighbors took second place and added $25.9 million to its total over the weekend. The Universal comedy was produced for only $18 million and has earned $91.5 million in the US alone, since opening last weekend. The Amazing Spider-Man 2 placed third, earning $16.8 million in the US. It's slowing down considerably in the States, but continues to perform well internationally.
