Bad reviews and reactions from comic book fans didn't stop the masses from checking out The Amazing Spider-Man 2 on opening weekend, but it fell hard in its second weekend, allowing Neighbors to easily take first place.
Universal has another big comedy hit on their hands with Neighbors, which earned $51 million over the weekend. With an estimated production budget of only $18 million, anything after this weekend should be pure profit.
The Amazing Spider-Man 2 had a nearly 60% drop from last weekend in the US. While it has crossed the $550 million mark worldwide, it's going to need a lot of staying power to reach The Amazing Spider-Man's $262 million domestic total back in 2012. Every other movie in the top ten earned under $10 million dollars over the weekend. While that wasn't great for Legends of Oz: Dorothy's Return, any additional revenue for Heaven is for Real and Captain America: The Winter Soldier is nothing to complain about.
Next week sees the release of Godzilla, which should easily claim the top spot next weekend, and Million Dollar Arm will also hit theaters. Here are the top ten results for this weekend:
