Weekend Box Office Update

2012/02/19 22:16:06 +00:00 | Jonathan James

Safe House claimed the top spot at the box office this weekend, holding off Ghost Rider 2, Journey 2, This Means War, and last weekend's winner, The Vow.  This week's new genre opening was Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance, which had a much smaller opening than the first Ghost Rider, with $22 million. With that being said, the sequel's budget was half that of the first film.

We've been keeping an eye on Underworld Awakening, which is out of the top 10, but is only 1 million shy of being the top grossing film in the Underworld series. Next week's new openings include Act of Valor, Gone, Tyler Perry's Good Deeds, and Wanderlust. Here are the top 10 results for this weekend:

1. Safe House $24,000,000
2. The Vow $23,600,000
3. Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance $22,000,000
4. Journey 2: The Mysterious Island $20,085,000
5. This Means War $17,550,000
6. The Phantom Menace 3D $7,865,000
7. Chronicle $7,500,000
8. The Woman in Black $6,645,000
9. Secret World Arrietty $6,400,000
10. The Grey $3,032,000
