Weekend Box Office Update

Ted easily claimed the number one spot at the box office weekend with $53.1 million. This is the first movie from Family Guy's Seth MacFarlane and beat industry expectations with one of the biggest openings for an original R-rated film. Magic Mike also performed much better than expected, taking second place with $39.1 million.

The Avengers may have been knocked out of the top 10, but it crossed the $600 million mark this week, making it the 3rd highest (unadjusted) grossing film of all time behind Avatar and Titanic. We've also been tracking Prometheus' performance to see what the chances of a sequel are and its current worldwide total is $284 million.
