Weekend Round-Up

2011/04/17 22:22:32 +00:00 | Jonathan James

It has been a slow weekend for horror news, but we still have a few items that may be of interest to our readers.

Scream 4 Box Office: This weekend, Scream 4 pulled in $19.2 million at the box office. While not a terrible showing for a fourth installment of a horror series, this is below industry expectations. As far as we we concerned, this makes sense given the type of movie that Scream 4 is. We noted in our review that while it may be marketed as a quasi-reboot, Scream 4 would mainly appeal Scream fans who have seen the previous films. The second and third week numbers for Scream 4 will show whether or not this movie was a wise financial decision for Dimension Films. [Source: Deadline]

Insidious Box Office: Insidious continues to do well at the box office, brining in $6.8 million dollars this weekend. With a total of $35.9 million since its release, this is great for a movie that cost $1 million dollars to produce.

Chloe Moretz Officially Joins Dark Shadows: Chloe Moretz announced via Twitter that she has officially joined Tim Burton's Dark Shadows. This confirms the previous casting rumor we reported last month: http://dailydead.com/dark-shadows-casting-news-and-rumors/

8 Playable Characters in Resident Evil: The Mercenaries 3D: An ESRB leak reveals that the upcoming Resident Evil title will have 8 playable characters. Only 6 have been announced so far and include Albert Wesker, Chris Redfield, Claire Redfield, Hunk, Jack Krauser, and Jill Valentine. [Source: Siliconera]

Hammer and Amicus on Blu-ray: The classic horror movies The Man Who Could Cheat Death and The Skull will arrive on Blu-ray on May 3rd, courtesy of Legend Films. [Source: DVD Drive-In]

Daily Dead Site Update: We are working on a number of site updates this week. You'll see faster page loads, a new version of our search system, a new page navigation system, and an update to the Tweet/Like count on each article. Scream 4 required our attention this week, but we are still wrapping up content for The Inheritance and Skyline.
