Zac Efron has officially signed on to star in Firestarter, coming from Universal Pictures, Blumhouse Productions and Weed Road Productions, and based on Stephen King’s 1980 novel.

As previously revealed, Keith Thomas (The Vigil) will direct the movie that is being adapted by Scott Teems (writer - Halloween Kills, Rectify), who will also executive produce. Jason Blum and Akiva Goldsman will produce, and Martha De Laurentiis, who was an associate producer on the 1984 adaptation of Firestarter, will executive produce.

"A young girl develops pyrokinetic abilities and is abducted by a secret government agency that wants to harness her powerful gift as a weapon."
