While Xbox may have revealed several new systems for their players, Sony’s annual E3 press conference was all about the games, especially when it came to their plans for Playstation VR this year.
First up was the return of fan-favorite Kratos in God of War, who hasn’t been seen since 2010’s God of War 3. Depicting Kratos and his son hunting in the forest, they encounter a Troll and Kratos takes him down with his signature melee combat. No specific release date was shown but the footage looked spectacular.
Next, a trailer for a new Playstation 4 exclusive, Days Gone was unveiled. From what we can gather, Days Gone about an apocalyptic and abandoned world and centers around a biker gang. Sony also ended the conference with Days Gone, showing some extended gameplay featured the main character fighting off hoards of zombies in an abandoned train yard trying to survive. No word on release yet.
A demo for another new property, Horizon: Zero Dawn was also shown. The open-world game featured a world where all animals are machined out of parts that the player is able to break down for different uses. With huge mechanical dinosaurs and tons of abilities, this looks to be a very cool and stylized adventure game.
The next game Song revealed was titled Detroit: Become Human. The player takes control of an android hostage negotiator by the name of Connor an in the demo, a rooftop hostage situation between Connor and another android who is threatening to drop a little girl off the ledge. Once Connor fails his mission, time rewinds to show other steps he could have taken to ensure the girl’s safety. In Detroit: Becoming Human, it seems that you must read people and make correct choices in order to get your desired outcome. This is definitely one to check out as it seems like it has infinite playing possibilities to explore.
Capcom then confirmed that Resident Evil 7: Biohazard is coming later this year, showing off a killer trailer for the upcoming new entry in the Survival Horror game’s legacy. Game footage followed a player moving through a dilapidated house with figures moving around in the shadows. As the main character enters a room with a ringing phone, he answers to hear a voice say, “They will kill you if you don’t get out of there,” just before the trailer ends. The big reveal was that Resident Evil 7 will be playable all the way through on the upcoming PlayStation VR. The Playstation VR seems worth it alone just to play this game, as it looks immersive and really creepy. A demo is now available for PlayStation Plus members to try for free and Resident Evil 7: Biohazard will be officially released on October 13th, 2016.
Speaking of Playstation VR, the add-on peripheral will set you back $399 and boasts an impressive 50 available titles at launch, including Resident Evil 7, Star Wars Battlefront X-Wing VR and Batman Arkham VR. You can get your hands on the Playstation VR on October 13, 2016.
Activision Blizzard debuted a new trailer for Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare showcasing an epic battle aboard a space station, which is definitely way out of character for the Call of Duty series. It will be released on November 4, 2016. Also announced was Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Remastered, which will be bundled with premium editions of Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare later this year as well.
A trailer for LEGO Star Wars: The Force Awakens then played, featuring the whole cast in LEGO form in various scenes from the film. Like previous LEGO games, this will surely be fun for fans of previous LEGO games and Star Wars fans alike. LEGO Star Wars: The Force Awakens will be released on June 28, 2016 for PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC. There is also a demo that is available now.
With the one-two punch of Hideo Kojima and a digital Norman Reedus in the buff, Sony and Kojima Productions dropped the trailer for Death Stranding. Little information was revealed in the trailer, which only showed a character played by Reedus waking up covered with scars and dusty handprints, on a beach surrounded by dead whales and fish. Kojima kept things mysterious for Death Stranding so hopefully more will be revealed soon.
Sony closed out their E3 press conference with a presentation from Insomniac Games, the creators of the Ratchet & Clank series, had a new Spider-Man game to show off. Teaming with Marvel, Insomniac has created a brand-new story centered around the web-slinger exclusively for the Playstation 4. The trailer, narrated by who is revealed to be Peter Parker, shows game play mechanics you would hope for from a Spider-Man game, and all the movement looks super fluid. No official release date was given.
