The Baudelaire orphans are far from safe, as Netflix cryptically announced a second season of their A Series of Unfortunate Events series, based on the books by Lemony Snicket (aka Daniel Handler).

Earlier today, Netflix revealed a new video message that led keen-eyed viewers to VastlyFrighteningDecision.com, where a new letter from Lemony Snicket somberly proclaims that A Series of Unfortunate Events has been picked up for a second season that is even now in production.

It's not yet known how many episodes the second season will contain (the first season featured eight installments), and a premiere date has yet to be revealed, but we'll be sure to keep Daily Dead readers updated on the latest happenings surrounding the cunning Count Olaf (Neil Patrick Harris).

"Based on the internationally best-selling series of books by Lemony Snicket (aka Daniel Handler) and starring Emmy and Tony Award winner Neil Patrick Harris, A Series of Unfortunate Events recounts the tragic tale of the Baudelaire orphans -- Violet, Klaus, and Sunny – whose evil guardian Count Olaf will stop at nothing to get his hands on their inheritance.
