*Updated* Scream Factory has been revealing anticipated upcoming Blu-ray releases all year long, including James Cameron's Piranha II: The Spawning, but it's now been revealed that the Collector's Edition release of the 1981 horror sequel has been placed on hold.
Scream Factory made the announcement about the delay on Facebook, revealing that the Blu-ray will be "placed on hold until further notice" due to "unexpected issues" that have come about since the initial announcement last week.
Scream Factory still hopes to release Piranha II: The Spawning on a Collector's Edition Blu-ray sometime in 2018, and we'll be sure to keep you updated as more details are revealed.
From Scream Factory: "We sincerely regret to report today that our planned release of PIRANHA II: THE SPAWNING is being placed on hold until further notice. This is prompted by some unexpected issues that arose from the project after we announced it last Friday.
As fans of the film ourselves, no one is more disappointed to bring you this news than we are. We are working to resolve the situation so that we can still bring you the title in 2018 and will keep you posted on any updates.
If you pre-ordered from ShoutFactory.com, your order for Piranha II will be cancelled today. If you ordered via PayPal, your account will be refunded within 24 hours."

From Scream Factory: "Look what’s swimming to Blu-ray this in 2018. PIRANHA II: THE SPAWNING – Director James Cameron’s first feature film from 1981 – will be landing on January 30th in the U.S. and Canada and we have some early details for you today!
• This will be branded as a “Collector’s Edition” that will come with a slipcover (guaranteed for three months after its original release date)
• We are implementing a change of our normal practice regarding the artwork strategy on this one. Normally we would commission a new illustrated piece and then provide the original theatrical poster on the reverse. In this case, the already-existing illustrated international key art that you see featured here (which was also used for the domestic VHS release) was so pitch perfect and iconic to the film that we felt it would be a challenge to try to improve upon so we made an exception here. Plus, the theatrical U.S. poster also had a cool design that we wanted to use as well somehow…so that image will be on the reverse. (Image in the thread below)
• Extras and specs are still in progress and will be announced at a later date. However, we can confirm that we will be doing a brand new HD film transfer (finally presented in its proper aspect ratio) and it is the uncut version that was previously seen on the previous DVD release.
