NEON ACQUIRES NORTH AMERICAN RIGHTS TO GENRE-BENDING HORROR “ENYS MEN” AHEAD OF WORLD PREMIERE IN CANNES, DIRECTORS’ FORTNIGHT: "NEON has acquired the North American distribution rights to Mark Jenkin’s singular horror Enys Men, starring Mary Woodvine and Edward Rowe, which will premiere in the Directors' Fortnight section of the Cannes Film Festival.

As with his critically acclaimed debut feature Bait, Jenkin acted not only as writer and director, but also as cinematographer, sound designer, and composer. Shot on 16mm color negative using a 1970’s clockwork Bolex camera and post sync sound, Enys Men evokes the feeling of discovering a reel of never before seen celluloid unspooling in a desolate, haunted movie palace. A provocative and uncompromising entry into the Horror genre, Enys Men sees Jenkin connect and extend the lineage of iconic chilling realism personified by Robin Hardy’s The Wickerman, Nicholas Roeg’s Don’t Look Now, and Sam Peckinpah’s Straw Dogs.

Set in 1973 on an uninhabited island off the British coast, a wildlife volunteer descends into a terrifying metaphysical and ecosophical journey that challenges her grip on reality and pushes her into a living nightmare. An ethereal fever dream of a horror that is as hypnotic as it is grounded in the cold Cornish stone, Enys Men asserts Jenkin as one of the U.K.’s most exciting and singular filmmakers.

Enys Men is produced by Denzil Monk for Bosena. Johnny Fewings serves as executive producer. Film4 co-financed the film, with Ben Coren and Lauren Dark serving as executive producers, and Kingsley Marshall for Sound/Image Cinema Lab.

Jenkin received two BAFTA nominations and one win for ‘Outstanding Debut by a British Writer, Director or Producer’ for Bait which was shot in monochrome 16mm. The film premiered at Berlinale 2019 and was released theatrically by the BFI in the UK. It went on to become a significant breakout arthouse hit achieving critical and box office success.

NEON’s Sarah Colvin negotiated the North America deal with Protagonist Pictures’ George Hamilton who are also representing the worldwide sales rights.

This month at the 75th Cannes Film Festival, NEON will unveil David Cronenberg’s Crimes of The Future starring Léa Seydoux, Kristen Stewart, and Viggo Mortensen and Brett Morgen’s experiential, genre-defying film chronicling the career of David Bowie, Moonage Daydream.  NEON recently received 6 Oscar nominations for Jonas Poher Rasmussen’s Flee, which made history becoming the first film to score an impressive trifecta of Oscar nominations in the categories of Animated Feature, Documentary and InternationalJoachim Trier’s The Worst Person in the World and Pablo Larraín’s Spencer."

Film Mode Entertainment and Sparke Films Announce Cannes World Market Premiere Of New Horror Film Scurry Starring Barry Pepper: "Clay Epstein’s Film Mode Entertainment and Luke Sparke’s Sparke Films announce the brand new genre-raising horror film, Scurry. Barry Pepper (Saving Private Ryan, The Green Mile) will take on a lead role with further casting announcements to come. The film will be directed by Luke Sparke (Occupation, Occupation Rainfall).

“We’re thrilled to be working with Luke and the Sparke Films team on yet another stellar feature film that raises the genre bar as well as the project’s commercial viability around the world,” said Epstein. “The addition of Barry Pepper and his adept talent, along with his massive global following starting with films like Saving Private Ryan and The Green Mile to more recent titles with box-office earnings exceeding the $1B mark all add immense value to Scurry.”

“As huge horror/thriller fans it is fantastic to be able to step into the genre with Scurry. This elevated horror film is sure to terrify and have the audiences on the edge of their seat when they watch,” said producers Carly Sparke and Carmel Imrie.

In Scurry, the city is under attack by a monstrous threat. Two strangers, a family man with everything to live for (Pepper) and a criminal with nothing to lose, find themselves trapped below ground during the chaos. Badly injured and with limited resources, they must navigate a treacherous, narrowing tunnel in hopes of finding an exit before they bleed out. Fear and desperation consume them as the threat closes in and they soon discover they have more to fear than each other.

Coming off of the global success of the OCCUPATION RAINFALL franchise and the announcement of next films in the trilogy, along with a multi-picture deal between Film Mode and Sparke Films, Scurry is set to thrill to the international marketplace and global audiences alike.

Producers are Carmel Imrie, Carly Sparke and Luke Sparke.
