After transporting us to the 1990s via In Search of Darkness: 1990-1994 and In Search of Darkness: 1995-1999, writer / director David Weiner and executive producer Robin Block are taking us back to the 1970s for their latest installment of the popular documentary series. This has me excited for all of the films that could be explored, from the biggest and best of the 1970s to obscure zombie films, cult classic Euro horror, a surplus of Satanic scares, and much more. Ahead of pre-orders this May, CREATORVC is looking for feedback and is asking horror fans to take part in their survey:

From the Press Release: CREATORVC, the creators of the critically acclaimed, fan-favorite In Search of Darkness horror documentary series, invites fans to share their passion for ‘70s horror by helping to shape the format of the upcoming documentary, In Search of Darkness '70s, and to weigh in on new, exclusive physical perks and collectible merchandising possibilities.

After journeying through the '80s and '90s in five long-form documentaries (award nominated for Fangoria Chainsaw & Rondo Hatton awards, with a running time of more than 25 hours), the minds behind In Search of Darkness are excited to tackle the cinematic, revolutionary era that spawned such iconic films as The Exorcist, The Omen, Halloween, Dawn of the Dead, Jaws, Carrie, The Texas Chain Saw Massacre, Suspiria, Phantasm, and Alien; a golden era defining how we'd look at the horror genre for decades to come.

CREATORVC is listening: Horror fans are encouraged to go to share their thoughts in a survey after reading the In Search of Darkness '70s synopsis — giving the audience as much say in the collaborative process as possible.

Known for prioritizing fan-inclusive participation in their documentary projects, CREATORVC’s goal in this unique opportunity is to gather fan insights, questions, and preferences to enhance the upcoming documentary experience and allow every horror fan to feel seen and heard.

In Search of Darkness '70s survey participation ends April 30, 2026.

From Writer/Director David Weiner:

“I am truly excited to return to my horror roots for In Search of Darkness '70s, and to once again invite our passionate audience to share their ideas and favorite genre films to help shape our next CREATORVC documentary. Growing up as a Monster Kid in that golden decade, I have so many formative memories of watching horror movies and late night creature features on the big and small screen, fueled by the broadcast premieres of The Exorcist, The Omen, Carrie, and Salem's Lot that my parents somehow allowed me to watch. What were they thinking? I can't wait to share my nostalgia for the decade combined with a fresh re-contextualization of this amazing time in horror history."

From Executive Producer Robin Block:

In Search of Darkness ‘70s represents the most significant evolution of the series we’ve undertaken so far. We’ve listened closely to our audience and are pushing further, not just creatively but in how we deliver value to collectors. This time, we’re rethinking  our Blu-ray offering to create something more premium and meaningful: a high-prestige physical release paired with an 80-page companion book designed to deepen the experience. It’s about giving fans something they can truly own, revisit, and explore; a tangible way to re-evaluate and celebrate the groundbreaking era of 1970s horror in a richer, more immersive format.”

Explore the ‘70s with your favorite Film Icons & Experts: After tackling the '80s and the '90s, the In Search of Darkness documentary series rises again, and this time, we're reflecting on one of the grittiest, most revolutionary and blockbuster decades of film ever recorded -- The '70s -- from the most celebrated, legendary movie titles to the many eclectic, deep cuts waiting to be rediscovered.

Taking on the era's greatest horror films with CREATORVC's unique, long-form documentary format, In Search of Darkness '70s returns to its full-decade, year-by-year format pioneered by our '80s trilogy; exploring 1970 through 1979 through lively, exclusive interviews with top filmmakers and actors, celebrity fans, and experts, all sharing candid observations, experiences, and critical analysis to celebrate and re contextualize this amazing time in horror history.

Pre-orders for In Search of Darkness '70s will kick off in May 2026.
