Weekend Box Office Update

2012/12/02 20:13:30 +00:00 | Jonathan James

As predicted, it was a relatively slow weekend at the box office, especially for the new releases. The top six six movies are exactly the same as last week, with Breaking Dawn Part 2 taking the top spot with $17.4 million. Skyfall continues to impress, earning $17 million this weekend, and bringing its domestic total to $246 million.

The new horror opening was The Collection, which broke into the top ten by earning $3.4 million. Considering the fact that the movie opened in only 1,403 theaters and has a limited audience, it's not a bad showing for this horror sequel. The Collector played on a similar number of screens and had an opening weekend of $3.5 million.

Expect the box office to be slow again next weekend, as the only major release is Playing for Keeps. We wouldn't be surprised to see Skyfall overtake Breaking Dawn Part 2 and claim the top spot at the box office once again. Here are the top ten results for this weekend:

1. The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn Part 2 - $17,410,000
2. Skyfall - $17,000,000
3. Lincoln - $13,509,000
4. Rise of the Guardians $13,500,000
5. Life of Pi - $12,000,000
6. Wreck-It Ralph - $7,020,000
7. Killing Them Softly - $7,000,000
8. Red Dawn - $6,550,000
9. Flight - $4,540,000
10. The Collection - $3,409,000
