While at the Cannes Film Festival, MTV News caught up with Scream producer Harvey Weinstein and asked about the future of the Scream franchise. Scream 4 didn't perform as well as expected at the US box office, but it still had a decent opening for an R-rated horror film and Harvey Weinstein claims that it is performing very well overseas:
"I wish it would have been better domestically, but foreign is so strong that we'll do over $100 million worldwide... It's at $90 now, with about five or six major countries to go and a lot of small ones. So, we'll probably do $110 million..."
As far as a sequel is concerned, it had been mentioned early in Scream 4 development that it was being created with sequels in mind. Harvey Weinstein is confident that there will be more Scream films, saying: "I'm sure [Wes Craven is] going to do a sequel, I'm sure he's going to do a sequel..."
Whether we see a sequel directed by Wes Craven in the near future or someone else take the reins further in the future, fans know that Scream 4 isn't the last we've seen of Ghostface.
