Want to know what some of Jamie Kennedy's favorite horror films are? What about his experience as a producer on the set of A Resurrection? We talk Scream, the cast of A Resurrection, and more in this exclusive interview.
How did you get involved with this project? Why this film?
Jamie Kennedy: Well, I was in the Scream movies, and I wanted to cultivate all of my horror fans. One of the producers approached me about this movie and I read Matt Orlando's script. I found out that he wanted to direct it too, so that got me super excited, and that's how I got involved.
Do you enjoy working in the horror genre?
Jamie Kennedy: Most definitely. Horror fans are the best and they are the most loyal. When they really love something, they can give it legs, and when they hate something you feel that. Horror is what helped start my career, so I am always going to want to be a part of it. We are never going to stop wanting to be scared.
Do you prefer producing films over acting in them? Or do you enjoy doing both equally?
Jamie Kennedy: I love doing both. I enjoy producing the stuff that I am in, but there's not always an opportunity to do that. I am always looking to do my own stuff from my own perspective.
What was your experience producing a film like this?
Jamie Kennedy: With producing, you get to sit back and give the director high fives. You go to craft service, and eat a pita and hummus. I am kidding. This movie was already put together. Matt put together a really great script, and I already knew that he was the best director for this. He shepherded the whole thing and made sure everything went smoothly, along with Phillip Glasser. I helped oversee it, and I definitely put in some comments, but I like to sit back and let people do their thing. A good producer hires really great people to do their thing.
That is very true, and there are certainly a lot of great people involved with this film. You have Devon Sawa, Mischa Barton...
Jamie Kennedy: Yes, we have Devon Sawa from the Final Destination movies. He has always been someone that I admired and respected, and Mischa has a really nice measured performance. Michael Clarke Duncan is just larger than life and lights up the screen whenever he's on. We were so lucky to have him, and it's unfortunate that he is no longer with us, but he was a great guy. Matt, the young kid in the movie was great as well.
Yes, absolutely. He plays Eli in the movie. He was exceptional. He is definitely going to go very far.
Jamie Kennedy: Isn't he great? He is so creepy in the film, but he is the sweetest kid ever in real life.
Are you interested in producing any more horror films in the future?
Jamie Kennedy: I already have a horror movie that I want to star in, and I've already done a short for it. There's already so many great icons in horror. You've got Jason Voorhees, Freddie, Pinhead, and I want this movie to have it's own icon. It's got some dark comedy to it, but it's also scary, and I am looking into funding that right now. I want to feed the appetite that the horror fans have, so I am going to try to Kickstart it. I think it will be great.
I have to ask... What are some of your favorite scary movies?
Jamie Kennedy: The Exorcist, Rosemary's Baby, The Tenant by Roman Polanski, the original Texas Chain Saw is really scary, the first Halloween movie. The first Halloween was blood curdling scary and it had a 300,000 budget. When movies have a big budget they can get messy. There was a great interview on 60 minutes about Jack Dorsey who also created Square was the guy who started Twitter, and he said brevity makes creativity. I think low budgets constrict you, and force you to get a little more creative in a way. All these low budget horror movies are usually the best ones like, Halloween.

It's tough for her to choose only one movie as her favorite horror film, so she picked two: Nosferatu and The Stepford Wives (1975).
