New Director for Stephen King’s The Stand

With Ben Affleck now taking on the role of Batman in the upcoming Batman vs. Superman, we were interested in finding out what that meant for his adaptation of Stephen King's The Stand. He had recently been considering it as one of his upcoming directorial projects, but now it's being reported that a new director is on board.

Deadline has revealed that Warner Bros. hired Scott Cooper (Crazy Heart) to direct the adaptation of Stephen King's novel and re-write the script. At one point it was said that the plan was to split up the massive book into multiple movies, but there's no word on whether or not that's still the case. Ben Affleck previously brought on David Kajganich to work on the script.

We'll keep an eye out for additional news regarding the project, as there isn't much to report on at this time. For those that haven't read the book or watched the miniseries, here is a brief synopsis:

“The Stand is a story of good vs. evil after a virus wipes out most of the American population. While it features dozens of characters (such as the Trashcan Man and Mother Abigail) and overlapping story lines running over many years, the struggle boils down to a group of survivors fighting the Antichrist-like Randall Flagg.”
