The Island of Doctor Moreau, written by H.G. Wells, is set for another film adaptation courtesy of Warner Bros. The novel has been adapted for the screen several times, including The Island of Lost Souls with Charles Laughton and Bela Lugosi. The latest version starring Marlon Brando did not sit well with most people, and it seems Warner Bros. would like another shot at it.
According to Deadline, Warner Bros. is teaming up with Leonardo DiCaprio's production company Appian Way, which he part owns with Jennifer Davisson Killoran. Also backing the project is Michael Connolly of Mad Hatter Entertainment, with Hemlock Grove writers Lee Shipman and Brian McGreevy on script duties. So far it's said that the film will be science-fiction with an ecological message relevant to today. For those unfamiliar with The Island of Doctor Moreau, have a read of the novel's synopsis below.
"Shipwrecked, Edward Prendick is rescued by a passing boat bound for the island of Doctor Moreau.
