In addition to hosting the new Shudder Original podcast She Kills, Adrienne Barbeau also has another exciting project underway this year, as she'll appear in DC Universe's new Swamp Thing series.

On Twitter, Barbeau announced that she's "headed back to the swamps" in the live-action Swamp Thing series that is expected to premiere on the DC Universe streaming service sometime this year.

As alluded in her tweet (see below), this won't be the first time Barbeau has explored the water-logged world of Swamp Thing, as she played Alicee Cabl in Wes Craven's 1982 Swamp Thing movie, based on the iconic character from the brilliant minds of Len Wein and Bernie Wrightson.

It's not yet known if she'll reprise her role as Alice Cable in the new series (Jennifer Beals will play Sheriff Lucilia Cable and Henderson Wade will play Matt Cable in the new show), but we'll keep Daily Dead readers updated on further details.

As previously reported, Derek Mears (2009's Friday the 13th) will play Swamp Thing in the new series, alongside a cast that also includes Will Patton, Virginia Madsen, Henderson Wade, Kevin Durand, Andy Bean, Crystal Reed, Jeryl Prescott, Maria Sten, and Ian Ziering.

Variety previously reported that a new Swamp Thing series has received a "script-to-series order" at the new streaming service DC Universe. Gary Dauberman (co-writer of 2017's IT, writer of IT: Chapter Two, and the writer/director of the upcoming third film in the Annabelle franchise) and Mark Verheiden (Ash vs Evil Dead) are co-writing and executive producing the series, with James Wan (Aquaman, The Conjuring) and Michael Clear also executive producing the project (through Wan's Atomic Monster label). Rob Hackett of Atomic Monster is also on board via Atomic Monster, and Warner Bros. Television is producing in conjunction with Atomic Monster.

According to Variety, the Swamp Thing series will revolve around "CDC researcher Abby Arcane, who returns to her childhood home of Houma, Louisiana, in order to investigate a deadly swamp-borne virus. She develops a surprising bond with scientist Alec Holland, only to have him tragically taken from her. But as powerful forces descend on Houma, intent on exploiting the swamp’s mysterious properties for their own purposes, Abby will discover that the swamp holds mystical secrets, and the potential love of her life may not be dead after all."

No stranger to the screen, Wein and Wrightson's Swamp Thing character was the subject of the aforementioned 1982 movie of the same name, as well as 1989's The Return of Swamp Thing and the live-action television show Swamp Thing: The Series (that ran from 1990-1993 on the USA Network), with ick Durock playing the titular character in all three projects. Stay tuned to Daily Dead for more updates on the new Swamp Thing series.
