A practical effects guru and master monster maker with iconic films like The Terminator, Aliens, and Predator just being a few titles on his lengthy and legendary list of movie credits, Stan Winston was a great creator whose influence and legacy we explored in our recent Stan Winston Week celebration. It's no surprise, then, that the Stan Winston School of Character Arts will have literally one of the biggest reveals at SDCC with the unveiling of the colossal creature Bodock.

Bodock is scheduled to be revealed to the public at noon today in NBC's Gaslamp Square, San Diego. The big beast was created by the Stan Winston School, Legacy Effects, Stratasys, and WIRED over a span of six weeks in 7,500 hours. The making of Bodock was documented in WIRED's digital series, How To Make A Giant Creature. Standing over 13 feet tall and weighing in at 2,000 pounds, the fully functional Bodock is sure to make audience members crane their necks.

Last year, the Stan Winston School unveiled a 10-foot-tall Giant Robot Creature at Comic-Con, and here's what Stan's son, Matt, had to say about this year's towering reveal in a recent letter written for our Stan Winston Week:

"This year we’re going back with something even more mind-blowing, a 14-foot-tall Giant Creature, and we can’t wait. We’re all committed to working on more projects that create that sense of wonder, that make people want to run home and figure out how we did it and inspire them to make something of their own."

"WIRED’s new digital series, How To Make A Giant Creature covers the creation of a larger-than-life beast that will be revealed to the public at Comic-Con. From concept to finished product, see the colossal creature come to life, in a collaboration between the Stan Winston School, Legacy Effects, Stratasys and WIRED.

The Giant Creature known as ‘Bodock’ was built over six weeks in 7,500 hours at Legacy Effects, the award-winning character creation studio owned by four of the FX industry’s most prolific and respected live-action-effects artists. Bodock is fully functional, stands at 13’6” tall, 9’9” wide, 13’6” deep, weighs 2K pounds, and was partially created using 3-D printing solutions from Stratasys, a global leader in 3-D printing and additive manufacturing."

We will be covering the San Diego Comic-Con live for the entire event, so be sure to check back frequently for the latest updates on Bodock and breaking news related to your favorite movies and TV shows.
