Nearly 20 years after its initial release, Renny Harlin's Deep Blue Sea is still regarded as one of the most fun and intense entries to the cinematic shark pool. While Steven Spielberg's Jaws remains the apex predator in the eyes of many film fans, Harlin's 1999 movie—like its genetically enhanced sharks—cannot be ignored, and Warner Bros. is diving back into shark-infested waters with Deep Blue Sea 2.

Coming soon to Blu-ray, DVD, and Digital platforms from Warner Bros. Home Entertainment, Deep Blue Sea 2 is teased in its first trailer (see below) that premiered exclusively on IGN.

While it has a similar plot to the original movie, the rated-R Deep Blue Sea 2 doesn't seem to have any ties to the first film when it comes to surviving characters, so it doesn't look like any familiar faces from the 1999 movie will pop up in this one. The trailer definitely channels the spirit of the original Deep Blue Sea, though, and it will be interesting to see how the second film in the franchise does in the wake of other shark movies like 47 Meters Down, The Shallows, and the Open Water movies.

Synopsis: "In Deep Blue Sea 2, shark conservationist Dr. Misty Calhoun (Danielle Savre) is invited to consult on a new, top secret project run by pharmaceutical billionaire Carl Durant (Michael Beach). When science meddles with the time-tested process of nature and nurture, the outcome can be deadly."
